Jetting down and advancing ignition keeps the car consistent down the track in high heat/DA situations, but how do you deal with the launch? Do you change your burnout?
Take some hit off rear tires? Change pressure?

Go find a lady on Hollywood BLVD?

I take it you'll be at Little River Friday?
Gonna try to make it out, I got too late a start last week.

I just dial soft....er, because almost everyone will be in the same boat with traction issues. The exception to that rule will be "that one guy" that folks see running 7.0-7.50 in the 1/8 with a tubbed car. Everyone always wonders why "that guy" spent the money to tub his car if he was only going to run 7.0-7.50......Conditions like that are why, and he will probably win the race if he has any skill....and yes, there is "that guy" with that exact setup at my track who excels at winning in hot greasy conditions.

Yep, I'll be holding a few numbers based on how much it spins, then I can just cut a decent light and race the stripe. Problem is in IHRA they let motorcycles and cars in the same class. There are about 6 fast bikes that race in my class, you can't race the strip against someone who chases from .5 or a whole second faster in 8th mile. That's why they are in this class, they know they have an advantage.

What ignition system do you have?

Most of the modern setups have at least a single stage retard. You can pull 8-10 degrees out at the hit for, say, .55 seconds then put it back.

It usually doesn't take much or for very long. I use a Mallory 685 box and I can do more than just that. And it if need more, I have severe Mallory 687 boxes with the controllers. MSD has similar stuff.

My GenIII Hemi uses a crankshaft sensor, so no distributor. The MSD Hemi-6 controller that runs the ignition is solid state. The curve is programmable as is a 2 step, but there is no stage retard feature. I think I'll just loosen the Caltrac bars a little and maybe tighten the torsion bars up a little to slow the weight transfer, along with a shorter burnout. I've already bumped the timing up 3 degrees from normal.

I think most people over heat the tire anyways. So shorter burnout may help.

Yeah, the plan is to make about 4 passes on Friday to see how the tires handle the heat.
See you there!
Not gonna make it there tonight, wish you luck Bob!
Post up how it went after!

Going to Fredricksburg early in the morning for the swapmeet. Anything you want me to keep an eye out for?

high track temp.... more air psi, advance launch rpm, less burnout. that's what I do for starters.

I say don't change anything except a 100 pound in the truck. It will slow you down by a tenth but it will be a consistent tenth........................

Turn signal bezel for a sharktooth grille. I only need one and everybody wants to sell me a pair. Have fun!

I only found 1 Mopar part at the entire meet. I bought it, but it wasn't a turn signal for a sharktooth grill, sorry Bob.
Well, there were some 1st generation Hemis, but they were too big to fit in the trunk of the Duster.

I'll bet they wanted a pretty penny for those!

I saw an old 392 hemi on craigslist for $5000 yesterday. Think he`ll get it ? Typical of the mopar crowd, gotta get rich off every part, like used car salesmen !

If you can get 3.5 million for a '71 hemi cuda convertible, you can get 5 grand for a gen I.

lower tire pressure bout 1/2 to 1 lb. lower launch rpm , loosen front end , let it put more wgt on back tire on launch. key is to not kill the starting line.

How did it go this weekend, Bob?

I watched a 341 get loaded up for $550, in pieces not sure what was missing but he had the heads, crank and rods, and was picking up the intake later. The guy selling said he had too many Heml's.

It was ok. Car was surprisingly consistent. Unfortunately so was my competition. won 1st round, then hit my dial in dead on 2nd round and still lost (he was on dial too).
All in all it was an enjoyable evening.
