Ok guys what is the main difference on these years of A body 383 BB k frames? Can you see the difference, will not work?? Thanks..
why doesn't someone make a conversion kit for the earlier K frame? Seems like that could be an opportunity for some fabricator. Maybe Mike Schumacher?67 idler arm is expensive and hard to find, one year only. If you have a 67 K, I would fab the mount whatever you have to do to convert to the 68/ later idler arm
yeah, I get that. But there aren't an infinite number of donor k frames out there, and there'll be even fewer if we have to canibalize what few remain.I've been told that it's pretty easy to cut the idler arm mount off a 68-69 small block or even 6 cylinder K frame and modify the big block K frame. I've cut off several and sold them to people who were doing it.
The 67 idler arm is more expensive than the 68 or 69 but I think people are making more out of it than need be. I have both k frames in my two cars. One has a 67 k frame and one has a 68 k frame. I don't know how inferior the 67 k frame is but I drive my GTS dart pretty hard and not in just a straight line and never had a problem. The difference in price between the 67 idler arm and others is like $120.00 vs $80.00. You are able to purchase a replacement through many of the suspension companies like PST for example. I personally don't think its a good idea to modify many of the 67 k frames to change over to the 68 style. Many people may want an original k frame in their real factory 67 bb a body. Is there really that much of a problem with the 67 idler arm setup? The is a pretty healthy supply of 68-72 6 cylinder K frames out there. I throw away several a year (or sell them for $25) which is what I also get for the bracket. Anyway the bracket is tack welded to the K frame and not extremely hard to change.
