it was actually coined by stirling moss the famous race car driver, he was the spokesperson on the ads when the hemi 6 was released in australia in 1970...they made a big song and dance about it being a hemi..all because it has canted valves and a "domed" combustion chamber
 
Its as much a 'hemi' as a Cleveland or BBC head. 18 degree canted valves, no cross flow. Marketing at its finest.

The 3rd GEN Hemi at least has centrally mounted spark plugs. The pistons are domed slightly and the combustion chambers are not a wedge shape.
