Considering this as a replacement for the stock 318 I have now. Seller states $2000 invested. I would buy it and store until ready.

How much are they asking?
Why is seller selling prsumably at a loss?
engine that you know nothing about..
Is the seller offering a warrentee?
Was the work done by a reputable shop?
does the seller have reciepts?
What parts were used?
I'd go to an engine builder and see what they charge for what you are looking for.

Just noticed some of the relief cuts(first photo right most 2 cylendrs) are not the same as the others. Is that normal?
I think seller screwed the pooch and is cutting his losses

I found the ad. With those circumstances, I believe you could buy that engine a lot cheaper. Act quick, offer them $1200.00, I think you can buy it for 12-1500.00.

Thanks Dana67dart
I see what you are saying about the relief cuts not being correct, under tight circumstances that could be a problem. Seller is not the builder., so they dont have any info other than what the photos offer

Thanks Roy,
They are asking much less and I realize a lot of the build cost is probably labor and not just parts. Wondering if the sum total of the parts is worth five hundred.

No...... Move on and keep looking. Head surface on the block still shows Gasket outlines. That alone concerns me. Even if the deck is within tolerance most times it will atleast get paralleled....

Good luck,
JW

So the deck could be untrue..

Yeah if you don't, I'll buy it for $500.00

They fly cut the pistons.

What I see is they vary in depth, a cc ? Ehh maybe idk, less perhaps.

Who did the rods and crank grinding, that's the question. You can use a factory deck, not line hone the mains and be fine... but when you can do those things you end up with ability to set the bearing/oil clearance right where you want it and dial the compression without variance across the board. That's a plus and all part of the blueprint process.

Those larger reliefs are for the intake valves and are correct position.

I take all engines built by someone else as suspect, I don't have great success with stuff built by someone else. incorrectly installed bearings, incorrect ring gaps, just saying, if you buy it, you might want to tear it down and recheck stuff, but by oil pan and head studs looks like a quality build.

My point is that the two cuts on the 1st photo on the right are significantly closer to the center of the piston then all the others.

I understand that the pistons have been modified with fly cuts for larger intake valves. But look at the two fly cuts I highlighted with red arrows as compared to the two on the left

I noticed that, Almost like the machinist did then on different days and wound up not cutting the intake pockets the same.

Kinda makes you question what the builder had in mind.Fly cut the intakes that large and deep and not touch the exhaust eyebrows.

I just look at all the sharp edges that could create a ping. Not to mention the possibility of piston weight differences.
