How do you replace a fusible link?

-
What size is the Wire you are trying to protect with the fuse?
A Fusible link is intended to burn before the mainline it is protecting.
Replacing a fusible link with a fuse... too big and you risk burning the wire you want to protect if it becomes shorted, too little and you risk nuisance blown fuses. Choose wisely. ;-)

Wire size current table:
18 gauge wire = 5-8 amps
16 gauge wire = 10-12 amps
14 gauge wire = 15-17 amps
12 gauge wire = 20-25 amps
10 gauge wire = 30-40 amps
8 gauge wire = 50-60 amps.

Fusible link colors
Link Gauge Color
20 Gauge Blue
18 Gauge Brown or Red
16 Gauge Black or Orange
14 Gauge Green
12 Gauge Gray

if you want to convert to blade type fuse, use a MAXI style fuse (huge blade type) as some of these circuits are slow blow designed to accept spikes but not blow. Splicing in a new fusible link or even an aircraft type breaker via a panel is another option.
