So following up on my "new guy" post from the other day my 65 Valiant is gonna get a new powerplant even though I have a fresh 273 Commando for it. I was offered a 69 model 340 with X heads that has been sitting in storage. It was too good to pass up so I guess I'll be building it for the Valiant. I had to take a 273 block, a complete 273 engine and a 904 to seal the deal because they were in his way so I guess I'll list them in the classified forum along with my Commando later today. Maybe I'll paint the 340 red and put my Commando valve covers on it......brand x folks won't know the difference.

In Commando dress, people will think you have the fastest 273 on the planet !

Nice score for sure. @66340SEDAN has a 66 Valiant post car with a 340 4 speed that just screams! You will have fun with your 340 I'm sure.

Oh my does it scream, I drove the dog water out of it 3 years ago

@memike, where are you? He is putting a 360 in his 66.
Here I am Chief !
I am doing the same here at home, already have the bigger rear end in and front wheel dick brakes from mopar (73/76).. I am going 904 automatic , you are going to have a blast when you get it on the road @65Valiant_NC

I think I'd hold on to the fresh 273 I have at the ready until I had the 340 checked out to be found good/rebuildable. Once I knew the 340 was a good builder, then I'd sell my fresh 273 to offset the cost of the build.....just sayin.

Looks like you have it all covered. I swear the Commando valve covers look better than anything aftermarket. Sweet ride

For sure. I got ahead of myself in that post. I'm dropping the 340 off Friday and we'll see what they say.

Update

I dropped the heads, block, crank and rods off the 340 to get checked out Friday afternoon. We'll see how it turns out. If it's all good then I gotta find the right cam. I'm open to suggestions using hd stamped rockers.
