I just got my Dart GTS 340 up and running and I have some problems to work through. One is the steering box leaking from the back where the steering column is attached. I searched for info on rebuilding it but came up a little short. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

The factory service manual covers it pretty nicely.

More common related posts here, "sent my ps box for rebuild or exchange and lost the high pressure line fitting".

Firm Feel is great. Go for stage III. Or for a few dollars more, Borgeson!!! Peter Bergman Auto has a kit to save chopping column. Better ratio.

Got that now. Now I need to get it out or can the seal at the steering column be replaced without removing the box?
You can remove the steering column and replace that little seal but first,,, rotate the shaft to see if it moves lengthwise in and out of the seal. Only so much adjusting can be done to a worn out box.

It's pretty tight. The car only has 47k miles on it.

Ok so try this for a plan, go ahead and replace both shaft seals. With a few parts removed, start it up. The hydraulic pressure will blow the lower seal right out onto a catch pan. Go ahead and put all that back together now and let her down. Remove steering column, use offset drill to make a small hole in the upper seal, draw it out with a small screw. Appropriate knocker for new seal install. done, no leak here or there. I might even consider replacing 'O' rings at valve block too while I'm resealing but that would require jack it back up to center the valve.

I see that but do they use my original box or just a core they get from someone else? This is a numbers matching car that's all stock with original parts with a few exceptions like brakes and gas tank and I want to keep it that way.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes they do use your original box, call them first if you go with them.

I'll call them Monday. Thanks.
Well I did call and was going to send the box to them but I had some family issues come up and in the mean time I talked to a guy that takes all his to ADCO here in Houston. He has several Mopsars including a Superbird. So, I took mine down to them and picked it up the next day.
