Trans bolts access panel.

I did the same thing to my car..... only LARGER! biggest thing was having to have clear my CSR trans sheild. Two piece aluminum cover held in with Dzus fasteners. Convienience factor is HUGE!

....and between odd parts breakage, and general grief brought on by myself, and swapping between a 727 to 904 I’ve had the trans out plenty the last two years.

Matter of fact it’s gotten to the point I made a stud nut set up on the right side so I no longer have to remove the oil filter for trans removal :)
 
You do realize that once you drop the trans mount, the trans drops enuff to get a clear shot at all 4 upper bell bolts with an extension and impact.
Then use the same impact wrench and socket to undo lower shifter bolt, shift lever nuts (now exposed ) and clutch/converter bolts.
Sorry, it's my nature, I'm a flat rate mechanic, trans on the ground in 10 mins.
Personally, if doing a clutch, I leave the bell on, and drop clutch/flywheel out the bottom.
I was taught not to undo anything you didn't have to.

My “racecar” has a motorplate so I don’t let the engine “drop down” when removing the trans mount. Also running the CSR sheild takes up a lot of space where your long extension/socket needs to go. Hacking the floor out is something I have no regrets over.

I got a couple of clutchflites for my dart. Lakewood scattershields. With all the bolts of course. And behind that, the bulk of a 727 gearbox. And they dont separate because they bolt together from inside the scattershield. Installing the trans, lining up the input shaft and clearing the pump drive spider certainly made for some colorful language at times. You know that my trans tunnel was modified. I would do it again.
