so when I run the codes on my 74 Dart, 2 things stand out to me. The LL29 code comes back as it being a Demon, yet there is no (remaining anyway) signs or markings of it being a “Demon”. Secondly, an A88 code that come back as a “Dart GT package”.

So my question(s). I thought the “Demon” was a package, and even sought after, given the controversy surrounding the demise of the name. Was it nothing more than a name that was used prior to being called a sport?

What “makes” it a Dart GT pkg over the non-Dart GT pkg?

Yeah, I ran the codes so good on all of that. Kind of my point though, I am not sure why on a 74 it is coming up as a Demon, nor what the Dart Gt pkg changed anywhere on the car. Any idea where to find a better description of the Dart Gt pkg?

Last year for a dart gt was, I believe '70. You have presumably a dart sport based on the year of your car. Dart gt was available only in a hardtop or convertible, never in the demon / sport platform.

The online decoders are full of bad information.

I was most unclear as far as the GT piece. I knew it was a Sport as I too understood all along Demon ended in 72. So I figured it was just a generic title for that body style vs what was accurate for the given year. In the end, I guess I didn't consider the margin of error with the Decoding service. Trash in gives you trash out I suppose. Appreciate the help, like I said was pretty confident in what it was as far as being a Sport when I bought it last year, just wasn't sure why those 2 codes were showing the description they were.

After Dodge named it the Demon all the do gooders came out of the closet condemning the name Demon, so Dodge renamed it the Dart Sport to pacify them.

G2 is "Frost Green Poly". You can see a little bit of it where the black paint has chipped off.

Yep, correct you are. That is the color we are going back with it. There a several areas that still have it infer years of primer being baked on it

mymopar.com is the best fender tag decoder, but IDK why it has problems with several paint codes. A couple engine codes as well, but most everything else is spot on.

That is the one I have always used. So far, everything has been correct, paint code included. But the Demon thing we know isn't correct because of the year. My guess is simply they are saying that body style, 70-76 is "either" a dart demon or sport. At least that is all I can figure.

A65 is a Sport Topper Package for Dart Sport that includes:

Interior decor group, Deluxe insulation package, Deluxe wheel covers, 6.95x14 white sidewall tires, Canopy vinyl roof, Parchment up and over stripe, and vinyl trim.
V9x is black up and over stripe or black hood performance stripe.
G51 is outside mirror, manual, chrome
M51 is power sunroof

The online decoders are full of bad information.

I'll take that a step farther & say they suck.

An option code for one make & model can mean something completely different on a different model in the same year.

Option codes can also have different meanings in different years.

Online decoders try to be a 'one size fits all' when one size does not fit all.

If there is not a specific decoder for your make, model & year, you can expect errors.

Errors can be human also, online decoders respond to the data put into them (illustrated above) H51 & M51 are both valid codes & are often mistaken.

(we are all human & we all make mistakes at times)

It's simple, sloppy/lazy data logging of the Sport vs. Demon after the name change, & You know what it is anyway so...................... GT was a trim and more available options package, that's all.
