Do you remember

maybe, are they the "car tails" that were supposed to keep you from getting car sick?

You mean the rubbery conductive straps that would hang down from the chassis and touch the ground from time to time?

I put one on the Jeep, had a rag top always getting static discharge from the door handles. Took it off...got tired of people yelling, "Hey you got something dragging"....... oh jeez.

I used to hear that u couldn’t be picked up on police radar with them dragging. I don’t have any proof that they actually worked. Kim

A guy I knew hauled chlorine in a standard sized van and had them.
Not sure why chlorine and static don't mix.

Here in Colorado the humiditiy gets so low I can shoot a 3/4" long spark from my finger tip to the metal around the door lock of our grand caravan just from sliding out of the front seat

Chlorine dioxide vapor is unstable when the concentration in air is around 10% and the air pressure is higher than normal. A spark can cause explosive decomposition of the vapor. Hauling chlorine containers in an enclosed van could allow a build up of vapor if there was no adequate ventilation. The static strap was a good safety idea.

I remember them, they kinda went along with curb feelers, fender skirts and such, a lot of pimp mobile's had them. Had a friend with a black Cadillac who used them, he swore they kept his car cleaner because it didn't attract as much dust.
