Trick Flow heads on 5.9 Magnum block

I called comp cams. The 1622-16 rockers we're designed to be pushrod OR shaft oiled. And in case anyone wanted to know the 8043-16 solid roller lifters that fit magnum blocks also allow for pushrod oiling.

The Rocker arms I bought from him oil through the push rods too.
And they come in 1.6 ratio which helps the geometry as well.

Yes that's correct.
Also got a geometry correction kit from him as well.
Great guy super knowledgeable and takes time with you to answer any questions.
He's also a Trick Flow dealer btw.

That's good to know, if I upgrade my rockers to those (currently using stock stamped-steel) I could remove the external oiling stuff.

I'd be curious to see just how much oil flows through those from the pushrods though.

I actually cut part of the tops off some stock valve covers just to watch the valvetrain oiling while the engine was running, when I wanted to test out my external oiling setup. Worked pretty well, oil didn't splash anywhere... it usually gets splashed off the springs and retainers since they move the most.
 
That is a lot of good info. I have both LA and Magnum blocks. Just trying to keep cost reasonable. I guess it comes down to trying to retro fit roller lifters on an LA block or oiling the valve train on the magnum block. It might be a chore drilling the magnum block for thru the block oiling... It could be done. Slow and easy.

Until the oil band pops out of the lifter bore....
Sorry, I’m don’t know how much lobe lift that is.
 
That is a lot of good info. I have both LA and Magnum blocks. Just trying to keep cost reasonable. I guess it comes down to trying to retro fit roller lifters on an LA block or oiling the valve train on the magnum block. It might be a chore drilling the magnum block for thru the block oiling... It could be done. Slow and easy.

not sure, I have a roller block that uses stock magnum hyd roller lifters. That cam is .560/.565 seems to be doing just fine. The other engine is a magnum block with Solid roller lifters and that cam is .640/.645 lift, Comp 8043-16 lifters.

I have seen a lot of crate engines in that .560-.570 range as well with no known issues. I did ask Howard cams about it a for cam in that range, and this was their direct quote to me. "That would be the upper limit on that lifter. Our part #91713 will handle higher lift, spring pressures & RPM."

I would agree.
 
Ehhh, what ever one has the largest lobe lift.

I've run shaft rockers with shaft oiling AND through the pushrod oiling for the pushrod cups
It looks so easy to add outside oiling for shaft rockers that I am not interested in oiling the shaft bushings and the rocker tips/ rollers only through the pushrods

the one thing I have noticed with these trickflow heads is the bolt hole doesn't line up with the last shaft stand anymore. So it will just take a little more of an angle to break into the stand.

I've heard they moved the stands not the bolt hole- can anyone confirm?
 
Fired up the trickflow headed magnum this evening. Pushrod oiled w/ Comp 8043-16 Solid roller lifters, Comp 1622-16 rockers. They oil... alot, easily coats the springs/roller tip.
 
Thats good news! I guess there is enough oil for the pivot point on the shaft too.

Should be, the rockers have a groove between the bushings which is where the oil hole from the adjuster/pushrod goes in, then there is another oil hole on top of the rocker.

quick idle video with the new trickflows... sounds the same.. hopefully there is a measurable difference in power at the track.
