Having been down the road you are just starting. Both my Mom And Dad died of complications from Alzheimer. My Dad in 2010 my mom in 2014. There are several "tricks" to dealing with the side affects of this horrible disease. I would be happy to share my findings with you. One of the worst problems some will develop is wandering. In the end my Dad had to be put in a lock down facility. Also if she drives, you need to take her keys from her. But on the plus side, I use to tell my Mom that on Easter , she could hide her own Easter eggs!

I Agree, My Step Son Jordan is 17 this year and is Special Needs. He don't walk, talk, feed or change himself. I am his Main Caregiver, besides his Mom. I find that when he get agitated or ready to have a seizer. I play Country, Classic Rock or even Reggie/Hawaiian music and it just calms him down, Quickly.
How they say ? Music tames the savage soul and it works wonders for "J"
Just My $.02

years ago I had bought her an internet radio, dialed it in, to a station from her home country and she played that all the time
then, I guess the radio got old too, and started not connecting to the internet
she'd ask me to fix it, constantly

one day, it had just disappeared, I don't know if she threw it out, or gave it to one of her sons to fix or what, but replacing that might be do the trick

im not complaining but having both her mom and our own kids does make life interesting
just one example is our couch
we have a big sectional, big enough for 5 adults to sit comfortable, with 3 of them having their legs up

we've had this couch before we bought this house (and this house we bought because we decided to move her mom in with us, which wouldn't work in the old house)

so, we moved into the new house, and placed our old couch in the new living room
we all had our "own" spot, but now we have one extra person living with us (and even though she has her own living room, she spends all of the family time with us...which was kinda the point of moving her in)
well, she picked her spot, and it turned out she picked the spot that used to belong to my oldest, now 9 year old son

weve been in this house for over 2 years now, and that still causes problems because both of em think they have a claim to this spot

but how do you explain to a child that his grandma forgets things?

Music and song are the last to leave a Alzheimers patient. When my Mom and Dad didn't know what planet they were on, I could wheel them into the Chapel at the nursing home and when the Hymns would start they would sing their heads off in time and using the correct words to the song! It always amazed me.

I hear ya man. I deal with the same thing with my grandma and my two toddlers. Though it’s weird, when my 3 year old is around, my grandma is the happiest I ever see her these days. They actually talk to each other, (she lost the ability to form full words and sentences years ago) but when he’s around, she actually talks. It’s odd and scary but it’s just something to deal with

My wife has Dementia, had lung cancer and is in the end stage of COPD, each day is one which brings new challenges but at the same time becomes like the movie "Ground Hog Day". With that being said I would have asked her "what noise?"

My grandmother has dementia, when it started, she swore she was hearing the mice in the walls running(we had an exterminator and they found zero trail of mice anywhere ) dementia is a shitty disease and nothing to be done to stop it.

My wife told me that a mouse had run out of her closet and up on her bed, stopped to talk with her and then jumped out the window.

Been through that with both parents. I really feel for you.
