I have started looking at new or nearly new Rams. I have been trying to find a short bed, regular cab, Hemi and 4x4. It seems my quad cab Dakota just collects junk in the back seat. I’m usually the only one driving it and it seem 98% of the time I don’t have any passengers. The dog would beg to differ, since she loves to ride to the trash drop off on Saturdays. I read that the regular cab won’t be built in 2019 because of retooling at the factory that makes them. I was thinking 2015-2018 but, are there older years that I should consider? Opinions?

The few, and I mean few, regular cab models I’ve seen are long beds and pretty much 2wd. When we decided to buy a new truck in 2010, we told the salesman (who we’ve been dealing with for a few years now), we wanted a regular cab, short bed, 4WD, auto, preferably a hemi and in whatever red was available for trucks in 2010. He found us one several hundred miles away with everything we wanted except the Hemi. It was equipped as we wanted but with the 4.7 V8 and a sliding rear window that we’ve never even opened. It’s been a great truck with no repairs and averages 22-23 mpg on the highway. I would maybe check with your dealer and let him do a search on his intradealer site.

I had quite a time finding a regular with short bed and hemi

I bought the only one I found, 2014 with 23,000 on it. 3.6 PENTASTAR, GOT MORE H.P. AND GETS BETTER MILEAGE THAN THE 4.7 I DROVE FOR 14 YRS. !

I have one, older than what you're after though. I've had it for about 6 years and it's been pretty good for me, although I don't drive it very often.

But yeah I agree, I really like the basic trucks too. It's a shame to see them disappearing.

Is towing ok with it? 5.7? I looked at a 2011 today only had 66k on it but, I thought it was older than I wanted. I usually keep one 15 years.

It's hard to find a regular cab anything these days. I balked on a 2003 regular cab chebbie with rubber floor mats and a big block the other day. It didn't last long on CL. That's probably a pretty rare truck.

Edit: spelling for Kern Dog. Thanks

With all of the Canadians on these sites...and the words they sometimes use, I was not sure. Montana is close to Canada, too.

I test drove a brand new 5.7 regular cab short bed back in 03 i really wish I would have bought that truck. They are incredibly had to find nowadays. My buddy had one with a 4.7 he sold it cheap I wish I would have bought it now.

Other than weight , I prefer one for trailer towing, the truck can out maneuver the trailer when backing and such, ''the reason semi`s are short compared to the trailers. ''

I looked for 1.5 - 2 years for a short box 4X4 Ram truck.
I found a total of 2 in that time frame. One was used and the other new, both were black in color, which I did not want.
I finally settled on a long wheel base standard cab, and that one was also hard to find.

My all time favorite truck...i special ordered an 04 Ram 1500, 4x2 hemi, 3.92 sure grip, short bed standard cab in Atlantic blue with a cloth interior (taupe color) and carpet. Roll up windows and push button locks.Basic truck, but dam was that truck fast for a p/u. I still miss that truck.

Update: Older thread but, Oh my brain hurts! I've been looking for new and used. I think the dealer trying to stick it to me. They kept trying to sell me a V6 and I said no, they said you need to drive one. I had to pull the what part of no V6 don't you understand. They found just 1 and are asking me to pay premium for a 2019 Tradesman model stating they are rare. No Fords, I'm not allowed as family would roll over in their graves! I went across the street and looked at Chevy 4 door. It was loaded with options and had the 5.3 V8. Nearly the same price. Even the base model has more features than the Dodge and is cheaper. Chevy has 20-25% off MSRP making them look pretty price attractive. I've found one 2014 Hemi SB but, I haven't researched the engine for that year. It has 50k miles on it. The hunt continues.

Ya think? I bought one new car off the lot in my life. Sold it for a loss 2 years later. Didnt like the haggle experience. Next few wife vehicles were Carmax. Price on the car is what it is and they even transported one down for me 300 miles to look at when he found it in his intranet.

I’ve started looking there. I’ve found a few even locally. May go look at the 2014

Open your search up to other states, the farther you go south, the less likely they will have rust issues.
My uncle just bought one down in the Carolina's, his daughter lives down there, looked at it for him, and he drove down and picked it up.
It may consist of a weekend of driving, but that is nothing to find a nice vehicle.

I drive past a huge Dodge truck dealer in Dickson City PA he has hundreds of
crew cabs .... not a one short box. A crew cab w an 8 ft bed is as long as a football
field, hard to even park the SOB.

When I started looking at Dakotas in 02, there was not one I wanted in the Northeast. I ended special ordering one. Only took three weeks for it to arrive. Of course, you will pay full list, but the "This vehicle was built for So and So" window sticker did have a certain cool factor.

Dang full price. I was actually thinking about ordering one.
