What's the best process to remove my gas tank (1970 dart)

Empty/siphon gas out. Remove fuel lines/ electrical line at sender unit, remove 4 screws at the filler neck/ gas cap area, remove rubber trunk/filler tube gasket that is inside trunk, loosen tank straps most of the way, spray lube on filler neck were it goes inside tank and twist as you pull filler tube up and out of tank(about 4to5 inches inside tank), lower tank down (I used a short 2"x12" board between Jack and tank). I think that's about it, as I recall.

If your changing sender unit at the same time, keep the old one. (They're easy to take apart and clean and re-use if the wiring is still ok).For sure, use the old locking ring, as I've heard the new ones suck.

Something to also consider:
If you need to replace the gasket under the lock ring, the aftermarket is much thinner and will not seal as well but I eventually used Permatex Fuel Resistant Gasket Maker on both sides of the gasket and let it set up good before reassembly. I had to drain the tank again, to about half to do this, after replacing a sending unit.

On the sendin unit gasket? Uhhh......no.

Its the only thing that actually stopped the gas from trickling from the full tank.

You have to use the old lock ring, because the new ones are made wrong. It's a wide spread issue.

I used a new style thin lock ring but had to make a thicker rubber gasket to have a tight leak free fit.
