So I've got a new spot at work that actually works well with the recent move to the new house. I now have a 35 min relaxed ride on 2 lane country roads. The Shelby Dakota is waiting in the wings for another refresh and paint. In the next year or 2, I'd like to make it my daily driver. Keeping it mostly stock.

Brings me to my question.... 1989 TB technology with a hot starting issue I have yet to figure out from a few years ago - vs - swapping intakes and plopping a 600cfm Eddie on top. I experimented on it once and it didn't go quite right. Brings me to my question...... can I simply ad a fuel regulator with a return to the existing fuel system and hook up the carb? Or will I need a stand alone ignition system as well?

You maybe able to run a regulator and get the fuel pressure down enough for a carb but you will have to come up with an ignition system. The PCM controlled the spark / timing advance. Plus you have to run some type of relay to power the fuel pump. The PCM only closed the ASD relay after it saw a signal from the ignition. That way the fuel pump only ran when the engine was running. I suppose you could power the ASD relay from the ignition switch key on. Been a long time sense I've worked on a TB vehicle.
