My 1972 brake booster has gone bad, I opened it and it is all ripped up and rusty. Is it as simple as removing the booster and being able to use the brakes like that? Or do i need to have a booster on?

Would it be beneficial to have the power brakes on a supercharged car? Cam is very choppy so I dont think it helps much with making vaccum.

Also i have went to autozone, oreillys, pep boys etc. They wont even order the booster for me which is why I am asking if I can delete it and maybe use a pushrod that works with just the master and np booster?

I have tried the search but havent found a part number for a booster if I can simply remove the booster

Disc/drum or drum/drum.

Yes with the correct parts you can switch back to non power.
I believe the brake push rod needs to be ' changed and maybe the master cyl.

Lookup master cyl for your car assist and non assist see if they are the same part number.

I have stock non assist disc /drum and have no problem stopping.

You might be able to get a rebuild kit.

Send it to Booster Dewey, he can rebuild it.

It is originally disc front, drum rear

probably 62' to 80'....? i don't know. just need a manual brake push rod from when MOPARs were cool.
if you get a used one you might need this
if you can't find a used one (start a wanted thread), you can get one HERE

When I deleted my booster, I made my own with a heim joint and 6" bolt. Kinda like this. Make sure to incorporate a way to keep it from popping out of the mc if the brake pedal gets pulled back, O-ring, limit strap etc. That'll get you to the muffler shop. BTW I don't even miss the booster. I like the feel of the brakes better without.

Assuming you could put everything back together as is, the brakes should still work even with a blown diaphragm (you might get pregnant but that's another thread... sorry I couldn't resist!) that would take care of your immediate need while you get a stock propper pushrod ( wrecking yard, here, ebay...)

By the way there are a number of FABO members in your area!

Now I have a question, when you deleted it, do you get rid of the big bracket that the booster attaches too? Does the master gp straight to the wall?

Does anyone know if these are good, from the reviews most people say good and there are a handful that say they were broken from the start.

Yes and yes. I made a plastic gasket out of a laundry detergent bottle to go in between the firewall and master cylinder. Think I saw that trick on here.

When I was looking for a booster replacement, I 'found' one on the above site that said it fit my make/model/year. Only after asking them for a confirmation of fit was I told, 'It won't fit your car. We don't have one that will work for your car.'

I didn't bother pursuing the matter, asking why their fit calculator said it would when they said it would not.

Just 'cuz The Web says it's so doesn't mean it IS so. Best to be careful to hopefully avoid disappointment.

The Summit part you refer to is the same part listed for my '73. Besides the WAY too many 'fail out of the box' comments, the picture of the unit doesn't match for fitment on my car. Not that I can tell, anyway. Also, listed as an 8" booster, the OEM unit on my '73 is an 8.5" Midland according to Dewey. Again, the same part you list being shown as applicable to my '73, I'd have to say, 'I don't think so.'
