Dont loan out your tools

-
I never loan tools, but I do have an inground pool in the back yard, with a safety cover that needs a pole to stretch the bands of the safety cover over stays that are mounted into the concrete.
Have used the same pool guy for the past 5 years to close the pool in the fall and install the cover, he always uses my pole to install the bands. The guy closing the pool is the son of the guy that closed my pool for the prior 10 years.
This time the son closes the pool and walks away with the 'pole". I need the pole over the winter months to release a corner of the cover to siphon water out of the pool over the winter months, in case of a lot of rain or snow melt.
I called him the day the pool was closed, as I noticed the pole was not in the pool room, he said sure , will bring it right back,, well two months later still waiting for the return of my pole, I have re texted and left phone messages, no response.
So I bought a replacement, only $30.00 but WTF with people these days? I worked with his dad for 10 years, then him for another 5, then he just walks off with something. I know this, I don't care what I pay someone else for pool service, the kid is not getting back on my property.

Wow you guys did a number on kicking up a very old thread but the moral still holds true.

I have been asked about lending out my trailer a few times in the last couple summers. Of course it was NO. LOL
Funny, I have no issues lending out my trailer...but only to those who are able to pick it up AND return it...I have these brother in law, you see...

Interesting topic.
I loaned out one of my "pickle forks" to a neighbor of mine, five houses down, this afternoon, when i do my mile walk around the block, and it was back in my toolbox that evening.

Must be a brother in law thing because I got 2 that always needed my bumper pull deckover and it always came back dented, nails in the tire, straps cut, light plug smashed. Went out and bought a 30ft gooseneck problem solved. Brother in law one comes over and said he needs the trailer I said ya back in the machine shed. He comes back, I can't find it but I see you got a new gooseneck! Still laughing...

My old boss use to say.

I wont loan you a shovel beacuse you will break mine and then you have to buy 2 shovels. Im doing you a favor and saving you money cuz right now you only have to buy ONE shovel...
