As I go through my 8 3/4, I'm think of going a few upgrades. One is going to the bigger yoke with for 1350 U-joints. I have the option of the 10 or 29 spline yoke, is one better then the other strength wise?

What spline is your pinion?

My present pinion is a 29, but since I am changing ratios anyway, I can get either spline count pinion gears. It cost the same to buy the gears and yoke either way, just wanting to know if one is stronger then the other.

The 29 spline is supposed to be stronger than the ten spline. However I personally have seen the 29 splines stripped. I have never seen a 10 spline stripped.

I have seen the pinion with the 29 splines in the 741 housing and the 489 housing that have snapped off. But I have never seen a 10 spline snapped off.

You need at least a 3.25 diameter drive shaft tube to fit a 1350 joint in there. Might as well do the front too with 1350 while you're at it.

A 3.5 inch tube would be better.

We always used the 10 spline 1350 yoke in the 742 cases we had for the Dakota race truck, it never let us down in over 11 racing seasons.

The 10 spline has big deep splines. Opposite the 29 small fine spline. You want the 10 spline if your making some power.

So 10 spline it is. I had a little more time today to look into it, and it looks like a quite a few of the differential manufactures only offer 10 splines in their builds. That kind of was telling in itself. Thanks for the replies everyone.
