Guys, I didnt know if this very basic question should go here or the fuel delivery section. I figured this is more a general question, so here would be okay.
Im installing a new regulator and was wondering if teflon tape or rectorseal is a correct sealant choice. I have the "Earls" blue 3/8 NPT fittings. The regulator is right off the mech pump if it matters.
Also, Goo gone to clean up the old sealant? Brake cleaner?

Thanks!

There is a proper Teflon tape for fuel , it’s in an orange case I believe, don’t use plumbers tape (blue case)

Just what I was lookin for...aviation #3. I knew that rung a bell, so must have known it at some point. This gettin old sucks...
Thanks for the heads up on the tape as well, but Ill skip that and go with the the right stuff.

Like said there is a tape made for gas applications Use tape very sparingly on the treads, and back from the lip so it does not get into the system.

I am not a fan of Teflon tape in any variety. It gets semi-dissolved by fuel oil and diesel. Professionals I encounter #2, #4 fuel a good bit. Most mfg of fuel valves, pumps, etc, will void a warranty if there’s evidence of Teflon. Locally, it was against gas code here. As stated above, the best practice is to be one thread back from the end. Lots of folks forget that. All that said, the real problem is the second time you assemble it. The bits left in the female fitting get pushed in to the fuel pump, carb, etc.

Ahh, I get what your saying. Luckily, all the female ends are on the regulator which is being replaced.
Also, little bit of Goo gone and a wire brush cleaned up the fittings nicely.

You do not need a lot of paste or tape, A little bit goes a very long way, you only need to fill a few gaps maybe. I just dap a small amount of paste on the threads and smear it around the threads.

Aircraft spruce sells a lubricant for fuel lines. I think it is E-Z Turn fuel lube. Good stuff. I used to use it on the fuel line fittings on my airplane.

I despise Teflon tape. Mostly because I take apart a lot of stuff that other people put together and that stuff is rarely used correctly. I use, and really like the loctite brand Teflon paste. It works well and as said above, a little goes a long way and does a great job.

I cannot stand teflon tape or liquid teflon. Both useless.

Being a plumber for over 50 yrs , and a hotrodder longer than that , I`ve used both and a whole bunch of other stuff . Teflon tape works well , if put on right , even so , it will need to be cleaned out of a female fitting on about any application.

I had an Earl's pipe thread connection that I could not get to stop leaking. It was on my EFI lines at the gauge fitting. I tried to use Aviation sealant like on my other fittings but it would not seal. I inspected the threads both sides and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I ended up trying "Permatex PermaShield Fuel Resistant Gasket Dressing and Flange Sealant". It worked the first time without any issues. I had no recommendations to do this and I did it out of desperation. Has anyone else tried it for that purpose. It is sold on Tanks.com for sealing the gaskets on the pump and sender to the tank.
