To make a long story short. I had bought a demon that had a 408 in it. I took the motor out & sold the demon. I thought the 408 would be a good motor for my barracuda. Well come to find out it is not a 408. To back up I did hear the motor run & it sounded real good. I took the top half apart. Every thing looks pretty new (that's what I was told) Looks to be stock J heads, double roller chain, flat top pistons. The cam doesn't show any wear. Cylinder walls & tops of pistons look clean. I had bought a small block cross ram intake, linkage & 2 450cfm holley carbs. After doing some measuring of the bore & stroke it is not a 408. Now my question is WHAT WOULD YOU DO put the cross ram intake on & just drive it ? It would be a show not go motor. OR would you sell the cross ram intake, carbs & linkage & put a supercharger or turbo on it. I heard from some guys that one of the past owners of the demon had a turbo on this very same motor. The barracuda will have a 4spd w/ 3:91 gears More street than strip.

Not a 408 but what? Doesn't matter, put the cross ram on and run it!
My new project car has dual fours inline on a 302. Starts & runs good but
I'm getting rid of it and going to either FI or one 4V,

360 3.99 bore & 3.75 stroke

^^This. If it's not a 408, what is it? 340/360, yeah, run the cross ram. Teener? Sell it, get a 340/360 and run the cross ram.

The cross rams were designed with the 340 in mind, so the lack of being a 408 shouldn't be a deal killer...

It sounds like it’s 4.000 by 3.79. Ive never seen an affordable 3.75 stroke crank.

So that makes it 377 inches and you are short on induction for that geometry.

I’d run the cross ram, but I’d buy better carbs. Those are worthless. At a minimum 2 Pro Form 650’s. You can at least tune them and they won’t cork up the induction too bad.

You're not loosing without those ci. Run what you got!

Put the intake on & carbs on, take for a shakedown run, & tune accordingly, I would.

its a 360 block checked things again its 4.00 bore 3.77 stroke the piston does not come all the way to the top of the block it sets down in a 3/16 of an inch also the pistons are not flat tops they are dished as for the compression I have no idea I was told that if the guy ran a turbo on it it more than likely has low compression as for the cam I heard it run & it sounds pretty wild but I know that doesn't mean any thing Any way to tell if it has the 3.79 stroke crank in it ?

Most likely it’s a 3.79 stroke. That’s a way better stroke than the 4 inch arm anyway.

Like I said, I’ve never seen an economical 3.75 stroke crank.

Is it 8 bolt, 6 bolt or dual pattern?

If you have a dished piston that far in the hole, your gonna be a bit soft on compression

haven't taken the flex plate off yet but it has 6 bolts I am also happy to see the crank was drilled for a 4spd

That looks like a Leanna special!

yep sure is Awesome job

Leanna's the best! She PC'd my intake as well...and called out all the lettering

BTW, that crossram is worthless but I'll give you $5 for it just so it's not a total loss to you.
LOL
