Hey everyone, I am building a 440 and I have a set of SRP forged pistons on a set of 6 pack rods. I also have a set of Eagle H beam rods. I would like to put the SRP pistons on the H beam rods but my machinist is hesitate about pressing the pistons off in fear of cracking them. Has any one else heard this or experienced this? Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah very likely. They usually break while getting pressed off. I asked about the old pistons a couple off times and was told they are junk after being removed from the rod. 6 pack rods should be strong enough for most applications. IMO

There is a special tool to hold the rod when pressing, If your shop doesn't have one move on.

Those 6 pack rods are very heavy, the h beams would be a better option. 65'

I went thru something very similar about 15 years ago. Put together a motor used stock rods and Speed Pro pistons. Ending up having an issue with the cam and tore motor apart and bought a set of Scat rods since I had a little extra money. Machine shop ended up breaking 2 of the 8 pistons when removing them. So after buying 2 replacements I got the engine back together. Being cheap and on a budget at the time ended up costing me more than if I'd just bought good stuff to begin with. I also think that a machine shop SHOULD be able to do this, but as with anything some shops are better than others.

OTC wrist pin press, the piston never has any pressure put on it.
