It could take time before leaking. Some long hot rides, or laps down the track could do it. I had all sorts of issues, tried with and without sealer.
I finally went with no gasket at all. I just used permatex "The Right Stuff". I ripped down the 1/4 mile track 7 times in 2 hours. The motor got pretty hot....and no leaks from the T-housing.
I do have an aluminum intake and crap chrome T housing as well.
I'm just a big fan of this gasket maker. I use it on everything now and so far its been excellent.
It comes in an aerosol can that looks like cheez wiz container.

Thanks, I will keep an eye on it. I have had good luck with their head gaskets also.

I don't think I've had a stock water neck leak regardless of what owl snot was used on the gasket (or not). Conversely I've never had a chrome one that DIDN'T leak. I gave up on them a long time ago.
Maybe one of the o-ringed ones might work?

I have never had any luck with the 0-ring ones, ended up using gasket on them.

One of the strange things on the these housing is the recessed area for the thermostat is in the it, instead of the intake manifold. I use Permatex Indian Head Shellac on the housing lip, install the thermostat and let it sit overnight. That works well on keeping it in place for installation.

And also either teflon tape the bolts or pipe sealer.
Never use teflon tape on any bolt or fitting screwing into an an aluminum casting. It's a good way to crack the casting. Liquid teflon or the bolt sealer that ARP sells works better.

Is this really true that teflon tape will crack an aluminum casting? Using tape and the right torque will not crack the casting. Over tightening will crack it. I've done it many times and never cracked anything. I don't know where you come up with this statement.

I am a big fan of Hylomar on gasket surfaces that I want to remove in the future. I adhere gaskets to valve covers and use Hylomar on the gasket to cylinder head surface. It's good stuff.

On a small block air gap manifold there are several holes that need to be plugged up and I have teflon tape on all fittings and no problem.

Some owners will throw the coolant and possibly coolant pressure at it without allowing time for the RTV or whatever to cure. Some have opted for something other than Felpro. I too went ahead and bought one of these to have on hand next time I have to replace the thermostat...

$10.00 for a t-stat gasket? Nope not in my lifetime. Never had a problem sealing them. Unless your are using a POS China housing.

Those pretty chrome china housing were our problem, but only realized it after numerous times of sealing and still leaking. When I put a straight edge across the bottom that was the rude awakening of how bad the housing was. There had to be at least 1/8" bow in it. Went to a$20 cast housing and solved all the problems.
