A few questions about tongue weight on your trailers.

I have a 24' trailer (Gator brand) that has a V-nose frt end. It is not one of the really expensive trailers but it does what is ask of it. The main thing I use it for is to store my Zero turn mowers and generator in it, kinda like a moving shed. I recently hauled my 66 Dart to Ocean City for the weekend. It was the 2nd time Ive used it and a friend had bought a tongue scale so I ask to borrow it. Here are the results that I found.

With the trailer empty the tongue weight of the trailer is 1100 lbs.
Car in trailer and 2' from rear door the tongue weight is 1350 lbs.
If I move the car to center of trailer the tongue weight goes to 1500 lbs.

The trailer weight is listed at 3500 lbs. while the car should be in the 3200 - 3500 lbs max.
That means total load should be around 7000 lbs. I tow with a 2011 5.7 automatic 4 door Ram truck with 6 ft bed. It tows fine and has plenty of power. With load leveling bars the truck squats about 2-3" in the rear and the front comes up slightly. The steering does not get light going down the road.

Ive always been told that tongue weight should be between 8-14% of total trailer/load weight.

I just ordered and received an airbag leveling system for the rear of the truck since Im not going to be able get my tongue weight light enough. So I was just wondering what others have found with your trailers.

Thanks Rod

Northern, yes it would be possible but much harder. I am usually alone and at 61 my head doesnt turn around that easily. One of the things that would make it difficult is that I have only a drivers mirror and no passenger mirror. Could definitely make a difference tho. Maybe I will give it a shot at some point.
Thanks Rod

yes air bags on your truck will level it up nice. your headlights will shine proper at night too.

Be careful with this "backing it on." You can end up with enough weight/ mass out back to cause a "pendulum" effect which will quickly "the tail wagging the dog." This is not always caused by too much weight per se "out back" but the mass hanging past the pivot point which is the axles

That seems like a lot of tongue weight to me, empty Is there "stuff" up front like shelves/ storage etc?
