40 ft lbs clutch case
55 ft lbs ring gear bolts
95 ft lbs for cap bolts

thanks i was guessing 40 to 45 do you know if the carrier bearing spanner adjusters are torqued ? thanks a lot for the info

make sure you put the axles in the carrier to line up the splines before you tighten the case bolts, if they're not lined up you won't get the axles in all the way later when the rear is in the car.

well i guess i need to check that forsure did not even think of the splines not being lined up thanks for the info many great minds on here thanks john

another ? do you do the same on the 8 3/4 with the caps off while you set it up

put your spanners/adjusters and carrier caps on when you set your backlash ( helps align the cap and spanner threads ) -- snug them down --- turn both spanners in to seat your carrier bearings -- then back them both off a bit ( keep the right side spanner loose ) to begin to set your backlash -- turn the left side ( ring gear side ) spanner in till you have no backlash -- now turn the right side spanner in till you get the backlash you want (.006-.008 thou ) -- back the right side spanner off and check to make sure there is still zero backlash -- if you have any backlash turn the left side spanner in to zero it out and proceed to set your backlash --- if no backlash is present -- again with turn the right side adjuster in to the backlash needed -- tighten down your carrier caps to spec and recheck your backlash -- done.

The adjusters don't get torqued; once you've set them for your desired preload they get held in position with the locking tabs. If the lock doesn't quite line up with a pair of holes, turn clockwise only to line it up, and tighten the lock bolts to 15-20 lb/ft.
