Hello, I disassembled an a833 which had some water in it at some point and where the rollers on the input shaft meet the main shaft snout there’s some rust on the main shaft. See the pic. This is the bad spot, the rest of that snout is fine. Can I sand this down a bit more and polish it up? I don’t think I’ll get it perfect, does it matter? Does it need to go to a machine shop - perhaps they can sand/polish it better on a lathe? Or is there something else I should do? It’s $300 for a replacement on brewers, that too much. Let me know what you think.

1.) Soak it in white vinegar for a day.
and/or
2.) Get some emery cloth, wrap it around with a good dose of WD and polish it up.

*treed again...*

That's nothing but a little staining. I agree with all above. If you don't have anything else. Hit it with a rag and some toothpaste and press on.

Only time it’s moving is in the lower gears 95% of the time nothing, use it like it is it’ll clean itself

Wire wheel off any rust. Don’t cloth the whole thing you will be removing good metal and making it smaller.

And don’t use vinegar, it etches the metal. Use evaporust if you want to soak it.

Held the shaft vertical and spun it with one hand while I used some emery cloth with the other. Cleaned up “good enough”. That was rust on there, you can see some of the pitting left over.
