As I was under my 70 Duster I came across something odd. It is on the rear section of the frame as it loops up over the axle. On the driver side there is nothing but a hole where the bracket? used to be. On the passenger side the bracket is (was) still there, until I removed it. I did some grinding and made a patch plate for the hole on the drivers side. What were these used for? I’ve heard they might have been assembly line jig mounts used during production?

From the looks of it it was added after the undercoat was applied, if it was pre undercoat the undercoat would have sharp edges. maybe someone had some sort of sway bar?

Nice welds!

Good catch on the post undercoat welding. The metal seems a bit thin for a sway bar. Hopefully someone recognizes them.

I don't think the factory had a-body rear sway bars till like '76, and they were on fleet vehicles, like cop cars, taxis, etc. IIRC, those brackets attached to the sides of the frame rails. But, who knows, it could have been an aftermarket sway bar, or maybe something PO adapted to the car. I know the a-bodies can use that rear sway bar, because I've used them.

Okay- I was expecting a moose or wolf being your from Alaska. Man! What a let down.
Did your car have a trailer hitch? Wondering if it had at one time spring stoppers. They were cone like devices that mounted to the leafs to prevent spring over loading.
Just a thought. Syleng1
