Ok , I read slant six Dan's mini starter thread awhile back and ordered what was supposed to fit my 360 LA. I ordered a starter for a manual transmission Ram 2004 ish.Ummm.... this sucker is hitting the block with the selinoid and not mating up. I saw other threads since with others having the same problem. Some people grinding. Im not grinding the block or selinoid. Does anyone know of a definite mini starter that will work. Thanks

Show a picture of the starter you have, I’m not sure if they are all the same but I know the 98 Dakota starters work, but sometimes you have to remove the lug adapter to get the correct wire configuration. Just got this one in a parts deal, it was on a guys 71 Dart with a 340

Thats what I read as your question in post 1? You asked if anyone knew a definite starter that will work? You ask for help and then come off with that attitude? Your on your own.
I had no attitude, you replied wtf. I said thanks, but the gentleman didn't answer the question I was asking. You assumed I was being a smart *** and jumped in. I edited my original question to eliminate confusion. Sorry if I was soo offensive.

Thank You, I will when I get back to the shop. That is the mini I've been seeing as a alternative

If you got a starter from a 2004 truck, you got the wrong one- that's 4.7/5.7 territory. The mini starters ended in 2001 or so. Go for the mid '90s Dakota/Ram/van with a 3.9/5.2/5.9, they're all the same. ('88ish-'01?)
The LAs had a lug cast into the block (for manufacturing purposes, functionally unnecessary) that sometimes slightly interferes with the mini starter. A couple seconds with an angle grinder takes care of it. If you refuse to grind, then put the big starter back in.

Professor date the Mating flanges are the same. The threaded hole has to be drilled on the 2014 manual shift 6.4L starter

I don't know what the big red X is for. The OP's question was on mini starter fitment, and that's what I replied about. Your top picture isn't the mini starter, regardless whether the mating flanges are the same or not. Seeing the clocking, I can understand his issue if that's the one he's got.

Wrong one my friend....4.7 is different design. This is a magnum LA or LA based V6 "RAM" starter that will fit.

Ya know, I think the confusion lies wherein that starter from the 5.7 ram with manual transmission only fits the slant 6. I read that thread and also thought guys were using that same starter on a v8, which isn't the case and I think at one point on this forum I recommended that same starter to be used on a small block, which in time was wrong ;(
