Piston pin offset "controversy"

-
My understanding is that reversing the factory piston offset gives a more favourable rod-to-crank-angle [ leverage ] & it is this that can add a small amount of HP.
Don't see a friction benefit because when the rod changes direction at TDC, the piston is stationary & movement/motion is reqd between two surfaces to create friction.

It does reduce drag inside the engine, supposedly with an increase on noise, but it's barely noticeable, mostly when cold. I have done it for 35 years in re-ring type performance builds with stock pistons, and "replacement" forged TRW pistons which are also offset. The 1/16" ring TRW "performance/race" pistons are centered pin. On a 440, with 2355F 6-pack forged pistons, reversed at .0035" skirt clearance, there is barely any noise factor cold. A 360 with Badger cast pistons fitted at .0015" and reversed, no audible piston noise at idle cold that I can detect. I cannot verify back-to-back performance gains, however.

This is probably the best post in this thread ! LOL! Someone who gets what UTG and others like him is about. Why do you think he is building junk? because everyone else already had a show where they order all the best out of a Summit/Jegs catalog and put it together. UTG had to come up with something different to be marketable. That piston offset BS with Freiburger was probably set up via a phone call to gain views for both channels.
