I have always been amazed how the yellow paint markers that junk yards use to identify their auto parts are so durable, long-lasting, maybe even indestructible. I would like to have one or two of those "pens" myself to permanently mark stuff around here. Is this a product available to John Q. Public or is it reserved to the alchemist community? (probably out-lawed in California). Thank you.

I've started marking my parts now, should have done it years ago as i have forgotten what some parts have came off. Also my kids will know what to do with them if i get hit by a bus.

wal-mart has "regular" paint pens in many colors.

They work well but repeated handling (like the radios I use them on at work) will wear through eventually.

Also- a good hardware store has them. I found a quick wire brush over loose rusty areas work great before trying to write. Also they despise oil/ grease.

Pick-a-part: I always tell them dont mark it, Im not going to return it. One guy insisted on marking it up (TQ carb, top and body!) and since I had already been checked out (its done at the security exit, I just walked away with it. The guy was quite disturbed at this action and started a machine gun stacatto of Spanglish directed towards me and the other workers...OK bro, means nothing to me if I cannot understand it. They will mark your + lug wrench if you bring it in too.

This is what we use at work and what I use at home. Once dry, only a red scotch bright and WD-40 or alcohol will get it off. Made in the USA.
