Getting ready to put the package tray back in dads 69 Dart. Is there insulation that goes under it? Is it glued down? Not really sure how it is held in. Help.

unless you have a rear window defogger, the package tray is held in place and properly located by two buttons with spring clips on the back that attach the package tray to the metal shelf it sits on. They just push through from the top. I have never seen insulation under the package tray from the factory but you can buy a precut piece of jute insulation to go there. I'm trying to quiet down things in my current project and put a piece of Dyna Pad under the package tray.

I'll try to get you a pic of the buttons and a pic of them in place in a car tomorrow.

I once had to do welding on a car with Dynamat what a mess trying to remove it. I couldn't get it all off and what was left still caught fire.
Its good to cover up floor patches to make it look good before carpet. If you can cut it and fit it without the adhesion it would be great. But if you plan on keeping the car and doing future repairs if something happens I would stay away from it . I won't do collision repairs or rust repairs on cars that have it applied. Throw it on a fire and see what happens.

I agree wholeheartedly! That's why I recommended DynaPAD, which is the thicker material that they make for floors, or anywhere else you are doing a horizontal surface. It has no adhesive so you just pic it up and then put it back down. I even used it on the firewall by sandwiching it between the metal and a set of the cardboard pieces usually holding stock insulation and then using the stock plastic push through thingys (that's a technical term). The only places I used dynamat was the insides or the doors and the roof under the headliner.

so here's info on the package tray buttons:

here are the buttons (2 for 1 tray)

Here is where they go (regardless if the tray has speaker holes or not). One on each side.

This was the tough picture - this is where they go through from the bottom. It's in the package tray metal support just outside of the speaker holes, behind the trunk hinges

If you have a new package tray there will be no holes for these. Get someone to hold the tray down from the top, go in the trunk and run a fine drill bit up through the holes in the metal to locate the holes on the tray and then remove the tray, drill the holes as big as the holes in the metal from the top with a piece of wood underneath. put the tray in place and press the buttons in

Yes, but you will have to paint them to match the package tray. I can't sell them on here (against the rules). Send me a PM so we can talk off this thread.
