Gonna do a carbureted 360 magnum build and i do NOT want to listen to one of those annoying *** inline pumps howling ever again. Ran three diff brands on two different cars and absolutely hated them. I want to hear my exhaust and engine, not that damn pump...arghhh.

What setup would yall recommend?

I take it you're not changing the timing cover to an LA cover and pump so you can run a mechanical pump?
If not, run one of the in-tank setups from Tanks Inc, Holley or Spectra with an appropriate pressure regulator and return line.

That's one of the considerations im thinking about.

My personal choice would be a Carter mechanical, unless you have to have electric.
For an external (inline) pump, look for a rotary or georotor type pump, they tend to be quieter.

I deff wanna keep the build as simple as possible. I got into LS Swap Chevy crap and Hated it. Back to basics! Thinking mechanical might be the way to go, are they pretty reliable?

Very. Easy to replace, you can do it on the roadside if you had to.

My 67 dart 273 2bbl 321,000 miles one fuel pump about every 50,000 to 100,000 miles, first change was at 163,000, then 250,000, then 315,000

Thanks guys! I'll run the LA Timing cover and go mechanical. Saves a ton of headache and money. Simple wins the race!

Remember, you need to run a "long nose" type LA cam in order to mount a fuel pump eccentric- if using a "short nose" Magnum core you'll need the Hughs adapter.
Hughes Engines

Good to know! because i was planning on running a hydraulic roller type cam.

Does anyone have experience with the Hughes adapter? I've heard negative things about it.
I've read good and bad, like most things. Not many alternatives, though- personally, I just run a reground LA core or an LA roller cam.

Pay attention to the year of the timing cover, the timming marks need to be on the correct side and location for your water pump and balancer.

Thanks. I sent my Magnum core to Ken for a regrind. The engine runs great, but I would also like to get away from an electric pump. I may give the adapter a try next time I have to get into the front.

Agree. I used a 70(ish) timing cover so I would have mechanical fuel pump option. But, I kept the v-belt set up so it's a little tricky setting timing with the timing marks on the drivers side behind the power steering pump. Possible, but like everything else on an a-body, it's tight, lol.

The best elec pump for your application is the Carter 4594. Yes, they can be noisy, but they can also be quiet, depending on how you mount them.
I have mine mounted behind the driver's side rear wheel. I cannot hear it & I have good hearing. The wheel blocks the sound. Not all chassis layouts allow this. Also, I have it mounted to the chassis rail, not the trunk floor. Another, unique, feature of the Carter pump helps here. The fuel circulates through the elec motor section, cooling the motor & lubricating the brgs.
I have made 'clamps' that go around the pump body. I glue some 1/8" rubber inside the clamp to avoid metal-to-metal contact. This also helps dampen the sound. The pump does not overheat because of the unique deign, above.

I'm running one on the Magnum in my Duster, it works just like it should. The instructions are a little hard to interpret, but you can figure it out.

I've run a few different pumps and had varying results.

The in tank pumps are silent, just like a brand new car.

I've run an Aeromotive A1000, quiet

Last is a holley black. YOu can hear it a little, but it is very mild.

I'm sure it depends on how, and where they are mounted, as well as how much sound deadening work you've put into your car.

I have an Aeromotive stealth 340 Lph in tank pump. It is very quiet! I am impressed with it. With a carb bypass regulator and return style fuel system, everything works real nicely.

If you can hear your fuel pump over the exhaust I’m saying your car is TOO QUIET. Make some noise!!

I do ! lol but now that I'm older the exhaust exits out the rear rather than before the axle.
