Valve Drop and Piston to Valve Clearance

Does it really matter what year? The point is he's been given time outs numerous times and fails to get the message.
I wouldn't consider that a conspiracy theory, I would consider that as fact.
His last post as YR was on the Jun 30, 2021
His first post as Rat was July 25, 2021 and this was an account that was created on Nov 23, 2020. Some Six months before YR went missing.
Why is he creating multiple accounts that overlap? One can only guess.
And what do you think he did then?? Yep that's right, only 4 posts in on the Rat account and he's headed straight back to the NP section, the same section that he was banned from as YR. Again, not getting the message, and thumbing his nose at the Moderators.
And what does he do when he gets there? Yep you guessed it again, starts engaging in the same harassment that got him banned in the first place. Again, not getting the message.
And here you are starting a thread callin somebody a ritalin sniffer. Pot, kettle black anyone?

I gotta a feeling you and I would be throwing wrenches and ballpeen at each other at times.
All in good of course. lol

I could care less who he is, I'm a big boy.
It's hard to ruffle my feathers.
Give me any grief and I'll throw a ballpeen hammer across the shop at ya.:D

Reverse rotation? Mesmerise them as they see it coming?

915 big block2.08 intake valve drop is 0.230 with 0.20 shim gasket on a 68 383 factory flat top .
Ran a 300 dur 500 lift cam with no interference. lol
The year was 1979. lol

Are we done with valve to piston clearance?
We probably are because no one else has any real -world experience using the method.
There is a real problem on this forum with guy's forgetting about their roots.
I wonder if some of them never had any.
We did things that in todays world say can't and shouldn't be done.
There's a term for that, but that's a different forum.
Take anything with a grain of salt until you do it yourself.

Wait a minute according to some if you don't have the highest of high-end equipment and the highest of high credentials you shouldn't be touching or building engines?.. LOL
My plan has always been to have a weak little low-lift cam and not worry about it...

One of the very best methods for checking P to V involves 30 cents worth of play doh. Just sayin

Soooo why do 68 318 pistons have valve reliefs and later ones do not, like say 1974 318...

Does the 68 have more valve open distance or do the older pistons a tad more height?

I use slime colored doh.

Different compression height pistons.

I actually like the method. I've never used it, but I may in the future.

If we are talking about PV with the cam already installed, I generally use a dial gauge. You can use feeler gauges between the rocker and valve stem, but that's another story.
One of the reasons I do it that way is because I like to advance and retard the cam up to 8 degrees and see what the clearances are at those numbers.
If I use clay, then I need to reset the clay every time I change the timing and do a check..Head off etc.
A dial gauge when used correctly is also more accurate, but a lot of low comp street engine have plenty of clearance anyway, so clay get's the job done.
That way later on if I feel the need to adjust the cam timing, of if the customer wants to, I know what clearances I have. Time is money, and customers like competent workmanship for a reasonable price ..
