Decided to give the slant a quick tune up today and while adjusting the idle screw on my Holley 1945 if I back the screw out too far the engine dies (as expected) however if I turn the screw in clockwise all the way in my engine runs fine.

I don’t think that’s normal. Where would the Carb be pulling fuel from in this instance?

Stock engine and car runs like a dream.

Are you talking about the idle "mixture" adjustment screw or the idle "speed" adjustment screw?

It was the Idle Mixture Adjustment screw.
I recently started putting dry black soot out the exhaust on my driveway, so trying to fix what I suspect is an overly rich mixture. My #1 plug was also fouled all others were ok.

Yes , the floats may be the running rich issue.
When I turn the mixture adjustment screw all the way in to its seat, the engine won’t stall out. Only counter clockwise movement out stalls it out.
