Once again ive decided to put my 67 barracuda up for sale. I need the money to expand my garage. So ive decided to put all the hoses on the engine & put water in it. I got about 2 gallons in when water started to pour out from the bottom of the bell housing. What the h*ll. So much for trying to get what i want for it or even close. Ive decided to not pull the trany & bell housing & just take a lose. Dosent make sense. I know all the freeze plugs are in.

Are you CERTAIN the block was drained for winter? Easy mistake to make, sometimes the plugs develop a "wall of rust" behind the plugs

The block sat for about a year with no heads & intake. I just put it together this spring. The only thing i can think of is there must be a plug of some sort in the back. Ist been a while since i worked on a small block

Could it be running from the back of the intake manifold down the bell housing ?

Keep the faith Brother. Let it go for a week, and you'll find the overlooked problem. Free advice from an old Mopar lover.

There are 2 freeze plugs on the back of my 1969 smallblock. Both 1 5/8 ''.

I lost 1 freeze plug twice. 1st time just finished breaking in motor. It was on the side so I was able to reinstall it. Then again (same plug)about a month later pulling up to a light.:wtf: Put in a different one and been fine since. Maybe some type of defect or I didn't set it deep enough. As said there are 2 in the back. Good luck !

If you were closer I’d gladly swing over and help you fix it (my luck something else would break/leak in the process)
While I was there I’d spend the entire time talking you out of selling it hahahaha

I’ve got a bunch of friends who wrench so I’d get a bore scope in the trans inspection cover. Depending on how bad the leak pressurizing the cooling system might make it easier to find.

It just didnt trickle out it poured out. From what i can see its coming from the flywheel area. If its a missing freeze plug i would of thought i would of seen that. lol To me me thats pretty obvious. OMG if i have to pull that trany out or like i said if i sell it ill have to lower the price. I dont want to sell but im so dang busy i have to expand my garage.

I'm about to do that very thing on a 273 in a '67 Belvedere. Casting plugs are rusting out from poor coolant quality and the plugs in the rear of the block were the first to go. I'm going to pull the engine as I suspect ALL of the plugs need replacing.

yep some of you were right i had a friend pour some water in it while i was underneath i still couldnt see where it was coming from so o got a light & had him pour some more in while i stood on the rt side looking where the bell housing meets the engine & there it was lmao at the intake bolt closest to the fire wall about 11 o clock on the bolt where the intake meets the head is where it is leaking. So i put some silicone on it 2 layers see if that fixes it if not the intake will have to come off. boy am i happy about that thank you all for your input & ideas

Does the small block heads have freeze plugs on the ends like the big blocks do? I know you already found it but I was just wondering.

Solid Question! I had one o them Lil buggers let go on the Ol 383 4spd Coronet back in the early 90s... Sucked, Man! Passenger side rear of head. Was my Daily Driver, did I get creative to stem the flow on that...

I had the same thing happened to me on my 383, I installed one of the little rubber plugs in. Good for now until I get the heads rebuilt or replaced.

Sweet! I'm Stashing That one! They didn't have them, That I knew of, in the early 90s... I used a nickel, some JB weld, and a bolt, with a elongated nut... it worked, but I darn Sho' ain't PROUD of it!
