Things Change.. Butters is now getting a 392

-
Thought I posted this already...

Thiscosst weekend, I got the 804 all mated up, starter on, harness mostly in place and moved my water inlet/outlets up front.. I'm running the factory AC and need the heater shutoff valve. So this works for me.

Was ready to drop everything in but found that my oil filter adapter wasn't gonna work for me. It was a knock off 90 degree thing. Ran the oil filter right into the mounting perch. So I'm waiting on a Mopar one. Should be here by the weekend

Also here's a few in car. Can't really see fenderwell clearance. Close!

Oil filter adapter finally came, so I was able get the last few things finished up and drop the 6-4 back down in Butters. It's tight but everything is tightened down and clearances are acceptable. I did have to mod the Trx oil filter adapter.. Cut the drip drain off, due to it hitting the K.

Also dropped the tank so I can begin installing the Holley in tank pump. Installed a new 3/8 fuel line and added a 6an fitting in the engine bay.

Once the motor was in I moved on to getting the column back in, shift linkage (modded), Bouchillon torqueflight controller, and started situating the harness. ECM will be in the dash and I did have to lengthen the harness for that to happen.. Because the factory AC unit is a space hog. The Sublime quick harness will be stuffed in there as well, with the fuse/relay box in the glovebox

I've had to fight for a 1/16 here.. 1/16 there.. But it's getting there

Love you have kept the column shift. Total sleeper mode.

Wasn't your goal to have it done by summer? You're kicking *** getting this done. I think you will be done way before summer.

Right on brutha! I love the column shift too. I've always had a things for sleepers.. and nothing hides power like beige and a column shifter LOL. ALso, it's taken alot of head scratching but the factory AC will stay as well.

Yes my goal is April-ish. I gave myself 2 options this winter.. Hemi Swap or paint. Power over Paint! I like to roll my projects out just as the weather breaks, so I plan and pace my projects accordingly. I only work on it over the weekends.. at least this year I have. I don't like dragging things out for years.

Ironically, everthing that I redid or repaired when I first bought this last summer, has been blown back apart and replaced or redone. I really tried to make myself love it as it was.. rebuilt the top end on the 318 with new heads, cam and efi (replaced with 6.4), upgraded to modern ac components (redoing again), new tank and sending unit (replacing with Holley unit), new carpet (pulled up to run battery cabling and electrical), new exhaust (cut off, waiting to modify) and more. I've pretty much revisited it all, one way or another. I kept telling my wife "it's not gonna be a project, it's just gonna be a driver". We both knew that I was lying to both of us. I have a sickness...

Doesn’t the TRX adapter have fittings for oil cooler lines?

I thought about use that adapter just for the oil cooler option.

BTW.. I still need to build a rear end. I'd like an 8.75 but in reality, it'll be an 8.8.. prices have just gotten way outta have on Mopar A body rears

My current plan is to get an 8.8 out of a Crown Vic. The later ones have 31 spline axles already, drawing a blank on the cutoff right now. Maybe ‘01? They have 3” axle tubes instead of the 2.875” on the Mustang and 3.25” on the Explorer. Then I am going to get some axle ends from Moser that allow ‘05+ Mustang brakes to bolt on and use pressed on 9” axle bearings so no c-clips.

Not the cheapest way, but maybe cheaper than an 8.75”. I think I can build it for less than an 8.75” chuck.

Just some thoughts.

I've got a few months before I start to sweat haha. I have a lead or two on some 8-3/4 housings.. Guys are "checking their barn". Funny how so many people have barns to check  Something will turn up.. Whether it's a 8.75, 8.8, 9" or a 60.

I bought a C-Body 8.75 housing for $50 last summer just in case. But narrowing, axles, brakes and a pumpkin costs have me believing it ain’t going to happen on my budget. Not that anything is cheap now a days.

I was going to I sell my buddy my spare 8 3/4 complete minus drums for $300. '71 Scamp he swapped the /6 for a 318, all he'd need was to shorten the driveshaft. Idiot traded it for an '06(?) Charger SXT with a ton of miles, said it was gonna cost him too much. The guy trading him couldn't get that Scamp on the trailer fast enough.

I need a $300 8-3/4 in my life...

I paid $450 for it years ago with a work out sure grip and 4.10's, had it in my Dart that saw very few miles. My friend sold me an open 3.23 axle for $500, and threw in a pair of new SS springs. Surprised me, he got them for free. I figured I'd pass along the savings to that guy with the Scamp. He traded a very nice car for a POS.

-Sublime Quick Harness (and unlocked ecm)
-Thermostat housing with 1/8 npt for temp fittings
-AC adapter fittings
-PS pressure reducer
-02 Extensions

The harness is pretty sweet.. Has fan and ac control built in.

Nothing exciting this past weekend... Dropped the trans to undo a mistake. I don't want to talk about it lol. But with everything as it should be, I finished up the column and shift linkage, setup the trans controer and installed the new throttle cable.

With the trans stuff outta the way, I moved on the fab'n panels to mount the ECM and fuse/relay box. Finding what worked best for my situation took a little figuring...sadly, that meant deleting my glove box. There's Alot in that dash. Once I knew the direction, it was easy enough. Once again, bi gotta say.. I love my rivnut tool! The ecm and plug oictured is one that I use for mock up. Ordered some isolation mounts for final install. Also began mapping out my wiring.. Added some ac pressure switch wires into the stock harness and began with some fresh wrapping. It always looks like a mess until it isn't.

Dabbled with steering components briefly. Always have to be thinking of the next moves. "To do" lists are priceless. Stay focused..

Have you seen this post about the Borgeson box being twisted a little?

Borgeson Power Steering Thoughts.... | Page 2 | For A Bodies Only Mopar Forum

Don’t know if it is helpful in regards to your potential tie rod issue or bumping the pan, but more info can’t be bad, right?
Good info.. raised a question or two out of mine concerning pressures, with the poster. I'm still rolling things around in my head about that.

From what read, they have a different angle than stock to make them work for our cars, making the pitman arm not parallel to the frame. I don't believe this is related to the idler bumping the pan at full lock. I honestly believe it's be cause TTI states that you have to ream the bolt holes to .800ish to allow for clearance. Talk about voiding some warranties lol. Anyway, this is done to allow the box to move left a 1/4" or so. By doing this, it drags all connected steering components to the left, moving the idler a 1/4" closer to the pan. So at full lock, I just barely touch the pan. If the box hadn't needed to be moved, I believe I'd have 1/4 or 3/16 idler to pan clearance. Just everything combined really.. moving the box left, scooching the motor right and maintaining correct crank center height creates the perfect storm to bump that pan. Reality is.. TTI could have done better with the A body fit

This one reason Holley doesn't really have this issue, when using their headers.. Box stays in stock location and the arm doesn't his their pan.

TTI requires you to hog out the mounting holes in the Borgeson box? Didn’t realize that.

Keep in mind, the picture shows more front to rear room than there really is.. Or was on my shorts. They really could have given more room. I can almost promise that what's pictured is not an A body with shortys

What made you go with the sublime wiring harness? Does this use a cable throttle or the fly by wire. Still not sure what harness i want to use? So guessing you have to use a computer from then so it by passes all the stuff not connected. Do they lock it or not as if want to go bigger cam and tune etc guessing not an issue?
Is the little module on the loom another fuse box for the harness its self?

The sublime "Quick Run Harness" had a few perks for me.. Saved me some money since I had a good oem harness. It also has radiator fan relays built into the panel with stock plug for dual charger fans as well as air-conditioning relay and trigger lead. The AC relay utilizes the oem compressor wiring.. Few less things on my to do list. But the compressor needs to be the single plug style compact.. Jeep I think. I had to use anyway for space. The kit also comes with whatever throttle connector you need. In my case, I'm running a bellcrank, which is standard on his harness.

I did buy the ecm through him as well (old one is worth $100 trade in) So you'll have like 300-350 invested in the ecm. It's unlocked, so it can be tuned in the future. I also had him set my fan on/off speeds to my liking rather than the oem speeds which are way too high for a 180 stat. No extra charge.

Not sure what module you're talking about..

I worked on wiring today and so far everything is very smooth. Took a small break from wiring to play with my Cai parts that showed up today. Got about 60 bucks in it.. Have some nice clamps for it too. It'll work for now

O.. Also grabbed a charger radiator and fans from a buddies scrap yard yesterday.. Mocked up for now
