That's gotta be a "cart start" on that Phantom.
Did a few of those starts when i was crew chiefing the Phantoms during my tour in Germany, back in the early 70's.

I gotta send that picture around to some of my old Air Force friends that worked those Phantoms.

Nothing like watching a Phantom chained down on a trim pad in full afterburner. 10 times the percussion rush that a top fuel dragster has. We used to snake ourselves underneath and throw a full paper can of turbine oil into the exhaust to watch it vaporize in a rainbow of color up the deflection ramps. Me and Hemi have had our discussions on F4's lol.

I used to cal the fargo ANG engine test cell.
one time we are finishing up, and the crew starts installing the engine.
that thing was inside a sheet tin shed, w/ 2 double barn doors,
we stuck around till they fired it. wow, as was said,
it is fueller meets GE locomotive
it was so loud you couldn't see
your brain was vibrating...
