I did notice that when I watched your video. I was wondering if there were mods that could be done to the thermoquad to improve the flow. There are also and 850 and 1000 cfm thermoquads out there. Wonder how much better they might do?
An 850-1000 cfm carb should be able to support a lot of hp, is really an issue?
 
Wonder what an untouched Air Gap and a 750-850 Holley would flow in comparison ?
A known combo capable to make a decent amount of power.

Not for nothing and I understand sometimes it's about the journey but KG engines has a cnc program for the J's and X's that flow well into the 280's
He sure does. I've spoke with him. Thats a good place to start if you want to stay with iron, and quick turn around.

When you've whittled a J head guide boss down to get into the 270's..you can see right through the bullsht of "mildly ported".

I was waiting for somebody to call bullshit on that. I know in my 20's when I first got 290 cfm I'd say things like .."its not that much work".. and people would pounce. All of the old timer head porters would call my bs. This guy is way late in the game and too many people know.
The only thing this is about ,or interest in Mopar this guy has... are the views on YouTube. Bumblebeak gets his part as Gilligan and the 3 hr "tour de salad toss" commences

I was just wondering those might flow in comparison to to 800 cfm flow numbers he did. No issue.
I am wondering the same thing. I've never played with a flow bench, but my mind can't wrap around why bolting a carburetor to an intake manifold would draw the numbers down that much if any when only one cylinder is being flowed?

Because 4 brl carburetors are rated at 1.5 HG pressure drop, the shape of the plenum and transition to the runners...all become obstacles so to speak

I’m not a cylinder head porter in any stretch so it’s above my pay grade to comment. I will say, I know how much work it took my head porter to get the numbers he got out of my W2s and my R/T heads on HIS bench. And that makes me question a 270cfm J head that’s only been “mildly ported”.

Huh. It's amazing how much I don't know about what I don't know. Makes me want to get a flow bench and build another intake and waste a few more months of my life.

Carburetors are the biggest obstacle in the flow equation.
One can only imagine why a simple intake and carburetor swap on an otherwise stock engine creates more power, and what if we just added a set of headers too. lol

As far as the intake? Just common sense stuff. Made the upper floor as low as I could, added material to some corners, took away material in others just trying to lessen angles and make everything bigger. Learned how to weld cast iron to put it all back together when I was done. I'm running version 4 right now. I have another one I've been picking away on. Between version 4 and 3 was just changing the transitions of the plenum area with leaving everything else the same, and it was noticeable on the time slip. I don't have anyone close that has a flow bench or that has shown any interest in entertaining my mindless search of uselessness so it's all just a common sense approach.
 
I have been abused by way better than him so I am not worried.

I watched all of Moparofficials videos. I have also watched all the mopar stuff you have done as well Charlie.

I appreciate those that are willing to share their knowledge. These engines have been around so long that no one is reinventing the wheel with any of this stuff.
There are a few tricks to increasing the TQ’s flow.
It will start with removing the choke and all the linkages with it.
If you can live without a choke, your good to go.

I don’t know why what happened did but it was an eye raiser for sure.

Your not worth the effort but as to only say your not worth the effort.

If you clean up, my words above may yet hold true, but I doubt it since you’d rather carry on.
