It has begun. Finally got my butt down to the shop and started taking my Swinger apart. Did not want to it till I was ready and have just recently started to get he itch again. No use starting unless your in the mood. I am bagging and labeling, I have started a note book with entries as I take things apart and have started a file on my computer with loads of photos. Think I have things covered as I get back in the flow of things. I am going to work front to back taking everything off the body, then I get the boys over and we will pull the motor. After that it will go up on the hoist so I can further inspect and decide what I need to do to repair the slightly cheezy drivers side front frame rail. I will be looking for some experienced help there from you guys, I'm hoping I only need a cap , any good tech articles out there on that task?
Tried to get the tack off the hood scoop but it was reluctant even after the screws were removed I,m thinking they may have used some adhesive of some type. Here are some pics of the little work I did, I hope to update this regularly. Also a pic of my fish on its perch overseeing the whole operation.

You are way too organized. My Swinger is in parts all over my garage, and in the attic. My biggest challenge will be to find the parts, let alone assemble them. You've got a very solid looking project to work on. Should be fun. Howard

The key to a good start is having something good to start with. Car looking good and you are just tearing it apart. I cant wait till it starts going back together. Good luck and keep the pics comming.

Its going to need rockers and lower quarters for sure, and then there is the interior, I have posted pictures before and will do so when I get home, green and white velor...uuugggg.

That's digusting... I can't remember reading it anywhere, but what year is your swinger?

I recall him mentioning somewhere else that's it's a real 340 Swinger which means it's must be a 1970. They only made 75 1971 340 Swingers that were all sold in Canada but they have the '71 rear bumper (4 tail lights) and his rear bumper only has the pair.

That green velvet seat cover material looks like it could have come from some of those old style mortuary drapes. How about brown shag rug and fur on the rear package tray!!! Well, that's what my '70 Dart Swinger 340 had in it when I bought it. It was stored for 12 years so I guess it was in a time warp!

P.S. That tac on the hood scoop has got to go!

that is the coolest interior ever how much you want for that :toothy8::toothy8: sorry im just kidding it looks like one of those old jogging suits nice car though good luck with it and have fun

Great to see you get started Sparky. I didn't realize that car was that solid. I remember you asking how much you should pay for it, and I also remember you saying what you got it for. You stole it even if it does need some lower body work and a frame rail. Not to mention, new seats.

Hay Sparky.
Looks like you have got started on your great car 1970 340 dart.:thumbrig:
and don't worry about the green velvet.
You are moving forward and I am sure you will get her dun in no time.
I like the tack! does it work? just me, but I think it will look good.
Keep us updated and get them sets dirty.:toothy10:

Hey man, that interior looks like my great Aunt's sofa!

My buddy and I replaced the whole front frame in the Deviant project. I would do it again if we had to, caps suck. Go the extra distance and replace the whole frame rail and live happily ever after.

Once you get all the mechanical parts off it's just a matter of drilling out the spot welds and the frame rail will drop out like a rotten tooth when you're a kid!

Here's the thread with photos....

You can do it!

Thanks for the link, I will save those puppies. I guess my decision will based on the condition of the frame rail once I give it a real good inspection. I have to admit it is a little scary looking task .

Its be a long time but there was no way I was doing another car in a two bay garage, the truth is Momma said she was not interested in having her ride outside for two or three winters. We moved a year and a half ago and now I have a shop, no excuses.... got to git her done.

As far as the tach goes, I,m with Memike, I like it. So much so that I took the factory tach and 150 speedo and swapped them into my fish which I think was an option for the 68 formula s so it works out good both ways. I tend to get more guys liking that scoop mounted tach than not, so for now at least it will remain in the plan. Although its a long way off I am already thinking about color, sublime is my current choice but as with the Barracuda I will change my mind at least 42 times. I saw a wonderful Emerald green sort of thing on a hot rod on Barrett Jackson that really caught my eye.
Hope to get at it again this weekend....after I paint the living room.....

Interiors can be redone. The basic car is SOLID!... I'm in NW Washington, and restoring my own 70 340 Swinger, so if I can help, please let me know. I have a small amount of parts, and some ability. I also have some co-workers that cross into BC to see family. Restore that old girl!

I try to get down to Spokane a few times a year, about 2.5 of hours from here, thanks for the offer, you will hear from me , I,m sure.

Spent a few hours in the shop. Pulled some trim, marker lights, tore off the vinyl roof. It is slow going cuz I am recording everything, marking parts, putting them in plastic totes and listing everything that goes into the totes.
See the picture of the seem on the rear sides of the roof pillars (rear), is that supposed to be there or has this car been upside down?

good looking project Sparky, The tach on the scoop is different, Hope you keep it. I would imagine there aren't to many darts with that. Green for a color will look good, but then I kind a like green darts!

I am sure that you will hear that is suppose to be there.:thumblef:
That would be the factory seem and I think there will be lead in it to along with filler. Looking good Sparky, some smart work too.:thumbrig:
great gob on keeping us updated sir.
