i have a 00 sporster 883 custom with the baffles taken out of the stock exhaust pipes. there is also a screaming eagle air cleaner kit with jets to compensate for the baffles being taken out. my question is that i want to upgrade to dragpipes and was wondering if i switch to dragpipes will i need to switch out to bigger jets?

how may#s did you go up in jets already??i would run the 2"Drags make sure you use the "torquecones"if they aren already welded into pipes try blike w/ the jets you have bumped to and if sluggish on bottom drop2 and if flattens out to soon on topend throttle go up another2 youl like the responce(and sound)of the drags USE TORQUE CONES

maaaannnn.....I was spectin ta see like a LEAR in HD logos:snorting:

ok thanks, but what are torque cones?

Please DO NOT PUT DRAG PIPES ON YOUR BIKE!!! You will loose most of your low r.p.m. torque, and that is where you do most of your riding. Drag pipes make power in the upper r.p.m. range, hence the name. I realise that you have your own reasons for wanting to put them on but trust me from a driveability and performance standpoint nothing is worse. I deal with this issue every day.
If you do put them on put a baffle in them. That makes them sound like crap but at least you'll regain some low end power. My advice to you would be to buy a good 2 into 1 system. This way if and when you decide to do any upgrades to your engine you will already have a good pipe on the bike.

Drag pipes sound GREAT! Put 2 into 1 exhaust will give a great sound and MORE power! Believe it!
Here are mine and I've run ALL the pipes there are (almost) and these do it all!

Tate. Dus Ted 74 is very very on this subject. Listen to the wise.

The best things you can do to the bike for power on a bolt on level is the pipes, air cleaner upgrade w/ rejetting the carb as needed and the ignition module and coil.

Everything I did was a Screaming Eagle product except the Vance and Hines pipes witch were a great steal used @ $200. They included everything and yes, there baffled.

Nice pipes & bike there wagonmaster.

LOL @ 68 sedan. Nice Lear. See these all the time.

i guess im not as crazy about the 2 into 1 look but whats available? anything in the affordable range. Will a 2 into 1 system be as loud? will a 2 into 1 have more performance than my stock system with no baffles?

hey rob, are your vance and hines a 2 into 1 system? what kind of bike do you have anyway? can you get away with running without the baffles with your pipes

Tate;

I have a 2003 (XL1200C) 1200 cc Custom Sportster, two tone, Black and Silver. Being a custom, it chomes OOTB so to speak, loaded with chrome and drag bars.

My computer crashed a while back and I have not straightened it out in full yet, but the bike is posted here several times. Check your own first thread about it and I think somewhere in a maileage thread it showed up..

Anyways, about the V&H pipes, there not 2 into 1 pipes. I would not run without baffles. The pipe diameter is small as to keep up the torque as drag pipes are larger in diameter.

OH wait, I got an idea. I know how to find them and post it up.......

Ah HA! Good, sort of. I added the lay down plate holder tonight.

More pictures here .... somewhere in this thread; http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=36764

if you are looking to make noise ..drag pipes do the trick.. at the cost of horsepower.
the best combo i have found is h-d 's screamin eagle slip on mufflers, with screaming eagle air cleaner , and a dyna jet kit for the carb, dyna jet gives you a better spring rate for the carb slide and needles and jets..
i put this exact setup on my 99 twin cam 88 dyna glide, out of the crate it ran 13.60 ..with these mods it ran12.90s in the quarter mile...with a best time of 12.79... the power increase was enough to make me put in the screaming clutch pressure plate a week later.... plus it still sounds like it is suppose to. a bit louder but no power loss........ by the way a bigger carb is not the way to go either, been there too.

You aint kiddin. Tate has an 883. So a bigger unit would be out for most anything.

Tate, keep in mind that Buell makes use of the stock carb on there engines and they are pumping out alot of power. It's been awhile since I read up on there site, but I beileve the 1100's are @ 100 HP with the stock CV carb.

2>1 YUK theyr great on a "bagger"like wagonmasters but "SPORSTER"means just that torque cones are a restricter that is at the head end of the pipe lets say you have a 2" pipe they weld (or slip) i where the pipe goes into the head at 1 3/4" creating sort of a Dam so pressure comoming back up thru the pipe cant be sucked back into eng..keeping everything(ex gases--unburned gases etc)flowing OUT and clean gharges IN i DO know they greatly increase the low end torque (sometimes)lost by open style pipes but w/ a pipe at least 18"long they sound good(i use removeable baffles frreflow ONE direction)low end throttle will more snappy no gurglin at mid(if correct jettin)and still great pull at wot do some research drag pipes or mufflers are all about WHERE youl be running most longer 3''off 4>1 collecteor on a small block does NOT run the same as say a440 then for a comparison put a 4bbl k&n -headers-then a 24"long stock Cbody muffler DOG change Mffler to a 2 1/2" Borla or flowmaster and wake eng up

oh yeah, i remember now you have the 100th aniversery edition sporty, mines a custom too but not as much chrome as your 1200 custom. anyway how large is the diameter of your pipes anyway?

The V&H pipes do not look large to me at all. I'd have to actually measure them and the baffles.
