Hi everyone,

I am long time B-Body guy with a "can't pass up" opportunity to pick up a very restorable '73 Scamp for next to nothing. I'm gonna grab it in mid-January and plan on digging right in. I know the B's inside and out, currently playing with a 69 Road Runner 383/4sp. But I know I will have plenty of questions regarding the details of my Scamp restoration. I look forward meeting everyone and taking part here. Looks a great community!

Currently a slant 225, but I have a 360/727 combo that I'm going to mildly build up. Which segues nicely into my first question. Has anyone used the /6 to small block conversion mounts from Schumacher? pros? cons?

I'll probably just change the K-Frame but am curious about the kit. Thanks

BTW....I put a few pictures on the backside of one of my sites:

My dart had Schumacher mounts already installed when I got it. Not much to tell. Don't really even notice that their there unless you get down close and look for them.

Welcome to the site!

What HP are you getting from the 340?

Thanks for the Welcoming!!!

Welcome to FABO Marcus! The Scamp is a great find, the body looks to be solid and the interior is in great shape minus the dash pad. Be sure to post progress pics as you go along.

I'll definitely keep pictures updated...Yeah, she's pretty solid. The guy is an out of work trucker trying make ends meet, so I'm happy to help him out as well. I have been on that end of the deal many times myself. I couldn't believe the shape the interior was in when I saw it. It'll restore nicely. I have had great sucess with SEM Vinyl dye in the past, so I'll be using that on this go around for sure.

It's a turd. It has so much piston slap and blow by that it's embarrassing!! It's basically a solid engine and I don't hot rod it much so that I can make it home!

I bought a 360 block and am going to start a 408 build next winter and sell the 340 then. It's a 68 block, with X heads, but someone stuck a cast crank in it. Pistons and camshaft are unknown.

Here's a pict. Kinda ugly. You can see the mount between the header and the alternator.

Damn, is that a puddle of coolant on the intake?

Why yes it is. Thanks for noticing!

The eighteen year old kid that I bought the car from put a chrome thermostat housing on it and I could never get it to stop leaking. I bought a stock housing at a swap meet last summer for $3 and have yet to put it on.

It leaks out the back of the housing and kind of makes a pond on the underneath side of my Airgap intake. It's on the list of things to do this year!

Welcome to this great site.
There are some great tec's here to help and cheer you on
So jump on in and make your self at home.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I have finalized the deal, but not yet picked her up. When I first posted here, I had only seen it in the pictures that I shared. Being a friend of a friend I was trusting the quality (yeah I know, been there done that) but when I put my eyes on it, I could not believe how the pix did not do her justice.

Never been wrecked and not even the slightest hint of one. The damage tthat is there is from a bad towing job. The engine bay doesn't even have a bubble of rust, not even under the battery tray. I have gotten really lucky with this one and can't wait to get started!

This is going to be my daughter's first car and hopefully the restoration process will be a Father/Daughter memory to last a lifetime. She has decided to go black on black, white vinyl top and a white rumble stripe... chip off the old block! I will mildly warm up a '72 360 that has been looking for a home for a couple years and upgrade to a large bolt pattern with discs in the front.

I look forward to becoming an A-Body guy and getting to know you guys. Here's to a fun year!!

Welcome to the board and congratulations on your purchase. Get up some pics when you can.8)

Welcome to the site! I've got a 6 month old baby girl and I'm looking forward to doing a project with her one day!

Welcome Marcus: You may already know about our sister site of For B bodies only. Just another site that some of us frequent from time to time but we know you'll be a regular here and it really won't suprise us either. The daughter thing....that's great. Make her do the research and have her introduce herself. We have some great ladies on here also. Good havin ya.

Yes welcome Marcus, using the Schumacher mounts is a lot cheaper and easier than changing the K member by the way and I use the mounts on my Demon with a BB with no problems and also the torque rod from Schumacher.
