best shifter

I've had a Hurst Competion Plus and it is a very good shifter. My all time favorite shifter is a Hurst Super shifter. It's more durable heavy duty shifter with reinforced shift linkage rods, bushed rod ends and adjustable stops. I've had this shifter in my 72' Duster 340 since buying the car in 1975.

If You Get Interested I Have A Hurst Comp Plus I Took Off My 833 Two Weeks Ago And Will Sell It To You Tomorrow If You Want It.

Hurst Super Shifter if you don't care whether or not it fits. It has shorter throws and straight linkage.

If you do care about cutting up the tunnel and torsion bar crossmember, then go with Competition Plus. Nothing at all wrong with that.

If you don't care how it fits?? Mine fits great. And there has been no cutting on the car or bending of the rods to make it fit. As for the short shifter handle, it bolts on and you can change it out for whatever fits your liking. I actually prefer the short shifter but understand not everyone has long arms as I do.

How does the mounting of the super shifter and shifter rod location differ from the comp plus?

I forgot about those old Super Shifters. Those are good shifters. I had one one time but I can't remember what car it was in, just that it was a slick shifter.:tard::rolleyes:

hurst competition plus! i need to buy another one. brewers is the cheapest ive found at 200 a piece...

The Super Shifter looks very similar to a Competition Plus, but it has adjustable stops, and a lock out for reverse. To shift into reverse, you push down on the shifter to access the reverse gate. And if my memory serves me correctly, it has a shorter throw. The rods are straight and not sure if all come this way or not, but the set I have on my Duster have an outer tubing reinforcement the entire length, and the rod ends are bushed as well.

well thanks everyone for answering i will go with the super shifter:cheers:

If you have no modifications done you probably have a CompPlus.

The Super Shifter is more than just a handle swap.... The rods and mechanism are not the same and it will not fit without modification.

Sorry to disagree, but I have a Super Shifter (I know this for a fact) in my '73 340 Duster, and absolutely no modifications were done to install it. The newer Super Shifters may be different, but mine is 33 years old.

A real super shifter has straight rods. How did you get the straight rods to fit?

I had all of the hurst shifters and the super shifter was the best until I got a hurst inline shifter. It was custom made for an A-body for superstock racing back in the day.My super shifter fit with no modifications and it is in my brothers 66 dart.I will try to get some pictures of it and post them. Old Mr. Gasket V-Gate shifter. I've had this since '74.

Do you still have the Competition plus shifter? Also does it have the press in or bolt on handle attachment? How much? Thanks
