Its in a 71 dart with a 360 magnum, basic bolt-ons (headers/RPM intake/750 3310) & a re-ground Bullet cam (.477 lift, 216/218 dur. @50, 112 LSA), 904 trans, Hughes 2500 stall, 8.3/4 rear, right now its a 1 legger with 2.76s & the 741 case, i would go with 4.10s, but the kicker is, in the near future i'll most likely throw a 100/125 shot at it, so i'm thinking 3.73s, any DR i use will be about 26" tall.

Min. gear, 3.55 Everyday ride
Street striper, up to 4.10. (70mph @ approx 3500 rpm, give or take, it's been awhile since I ran that combo.)

Depends on what you plan on doing with the car.
Strip only
Street/strip
Daily driver.
Running Moonshine.
Etc...
Give us an idea with what you plan on doing in the car,and that will give us a better idea.

I run a 3.55 in my street car.

It'll mainly be a street car, i'm likeing the idea of 3.73s, not too high, not too low, but should work great with nitrous & get me through the 1/4 mile with spray.

With 3.73's street light to street light will be fun.Same as the 1/4.
Freeway driving for medium to long distances will not be fun.

So for a street car you are right in the ball park.

With that cam your peak power can't be much more then 5500 rpms.
26 inch tall tire and a tight convertor??
I would leave it alone and shift it like a two speed in the quarter, going past your peak power by 400 rpm and reving it out in second.
It will hook out of the hole great with slicks.
2.76 gears are perfect with your cam.
your cam is a lower rpm cam that makes alot of torque.

If i had to choose then i would use 4.10s with a better cam.
put a nitrous cam in it with the new gears,
OR JUST LEAVE IT ALONE.:thumblef:
HEY,IF YOU CAN RUN FAST AND HAVE 3RD AS A OVERDRIVE ??? :drinkers:

What do you have to lose,it's already put together in your drive way.

I used to run 3.55's on my old 360 motor with 180 shot of nitrous and 26" tall sportsman pro's. It drove well around town, but was inconsistent at the track.

For a street car, 3.55's would be my vote.

FWIW, when I switched to 4.10's the car picked up half a second...and when I added Hoosier QTP it hooked and shaved another 0.4.

What tires were you runing when you ran nitrous & how inconsistant was it in ET? It doesn't surprize me you picked up .5 from 3.55s too 4.10s, SBs love more gear, even if there mild, i ran 4.56s in my 370 cu. 73 dart & it wasen't bad on the street, hell even at 55 it cruised nice, that was with 255/60/15s.

I'm sure if i run stickies, it'll be fairly consistance on a smaller shot.

Going from these 2.76s too a 3.55 & a 2500 stall should wake it up nicely.

Hey Joe!!!!! Can you put a taller tire on it?? I would put in 3.73's and that way you can have the best of both worlds..street and strip and HAVE FUN!!!!

I ran Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pros that were 26” tall with a 3.55 gear. The 60’ times were not consistent because sometimes it would hood ok, and other times it would spin hard (12.3-12.0 @ Bandimere in Denver)….IMO those tires were crap. When I switched to the Hoosier QTP I also went to a 28” tall tire. The combination of the increase height and a better tire made the car very consistent. If you don’t have tires yet, I would go for the tallest one you can squeeze in…this helps the car absorb some of the shock of launching on the bottle.

The other thing about nitrous is, it makes a boat load of torque…so you can run a taller gear (highway gear) and run close to same number. Above all, have fun with your car!8)

Thanks Fish, yeah i'm familiar wth nitrous, ran 12.0s in my LT1 camaro with bolt-ons & a 100 shot shifting gears lol.

Those sportsman pros are junk.

Whatcha been up to mike, cars lookin good, looks like your seeing the track again, do you have any times?

Well,ALOT since the last time we talked!!!! Moved back to Ct, Car is just sitting with no motor/tranny in it. I do have a nice little 360 going together for it though!!!! Ive been out of work on DSS for almost 2 yrs now because somehow i got a lung disease and yeah it sucks!!!!! Im on oxygen like Emma but hey,if she can do it,so can I!!!!
Emma and I have been doing great!!!!!..She now is in 1st grade and LOVES school!!!! How have you been doing?? Miss your duster?? We will have to call and talk on the phone again.
Any pics of your new ride??

Sad too hear that Mike, just hang in there, Donna past away back in Feb.09 do to her illness, Me & Lea are working for now, so thats a +, I do miss the Duster every now & then, but to be honest, one car i miss is my 97 Camaro, that car was a blast to drive, & it hailed azz, i could cruise it to the track, run 115 mph in the 1/4, cruise back home getting 25 mpg lol. The dart is ok, needs some wheels/tires, its no cream puff, just a project, i like the Magnum engine, i think once it has some exhaust/gears/converter, it'll get the job done, i've installed an aluminum fuel cell & 3/8 line, the 750 3310 i dropped on made a huge difference over the 600 1850, doesn't feel like its so desperate for gears anymore.

So i guess thats an old pic of your Duster then, do you ever think you'll get it running?

Heres a pic of the dart when i got it, it more or less looks the same.

Im sorry about your loss!!!! If I remember,Donna was your wife..right?? Yeah, that pic is old and yes, hopefully this summer ill have it running. Im missing a few things and thats whats holding me up.
So,you already have a Magnum motor in it?? You miss Tx.???

Yeah i'm thinking 3.55s on the low scale, 3.73s on the high, i'm just trying to decide now wether to find a used 3rd. member with a suregrip & pray it isn't junk, or get a new set of gears & spool this 741 case.

I'm going to call Doc-diff, he has gear sets for 185.00, i can get a full spool for 105.00, i'm sure the carrier bearings are good, maybe even the pinion bearing, just wondering if i can eliminate the crush sleeve & go with shims on this 741 case.

3.91's with a 26-27"tall tire.:wav:

That is what I run and wish at times it had 4.10 gears....but then flat out 3.21 would be best. (could kill myself too, lol)

It depends on how high the engine can rev clean to, mine is 6,500 rpms...maybe built right it could have been 7,500 rpms.

If your motor like 5,500 rpms and no more then 3.91 are out..no more then 3.55 gears, maybe not even that.

Your right, i called Doc diff, they don't have crush sleeves, thats a plus.
