93 318 build help!!

ok so i want to hop up a 318 thats in my new little 93 dodge dakota

but i know nothing about building a fuel injected motor and also building a motor that has to pass smog

i really dont want to pull the motor out

what do you recomend that i can do with say $500

i found shorty headers that supposed to bolt up to the stock exhaust location $150

the exhaust on this truck is single and goes into a muffler and comes out dual

please tell me what you think i should do and how i should go about this

start with a k n filter and a 14 inch air cleaner like the old style i have 1 on my dak

For a cam, I'd look to Comp cams in there section of smog legal EO numbered cams. There mild enuff to still use the OE intake and injectors but will add some nice power. Low end grunt should improve well.

There are several header manufatures of headers on the market for the Dodge V8 in a truck. Hi flow cats are also available as well as the cat back systems. Smaller pulleys are also out there. 1.7 rockers and behive springs.
