    72 340 build vs...other options

My take. 340's are cool nostalgia, If I had an all original 340 equipped car, yes I'm keeping it. If I happen to have a 340 around by itself I'll sell it to someone who'll do more with it than me whether it's a restoration or is really big into nostalgia. 360's especially 5.9's you can "do more...

    What’s a 360 worth

$400 is not too shabby for a rebuildable core... Plus half the work is done. It's $275 here at a local U-pull-it yard. And I do mean, You pull it.

    408 Stroker

Following as well. As I too am assembling a 408 stroker, based off of a 2003 360 magnum. I am going with one of the cams from Hughes Engines. And giving the Eddy Mag alum. heads to machine shop to go through.

318 runs real load and shakes like crazy

...one is a possibility, and this is no reflection on your skills or anything, that being said I've done this before because I was tired and exhausted*: Are the spark plug wires on the correct cylinders? *Yeah, I got the wires crossed before because I wasn't working on all cylinders after...

    Biggest mistake ever- lunati cams

Been running Lunati Voodoo for over 50K miles on my daily driven duster with a 1991 stock bore, 10.2 comp. roller cam 360. No issues other than a slight one (see below) I'm using the 20200711LUN & honestly it is a bit small. However, I tried getting the bigger Voodoo Cam for my magnum 408...

That's pretty snazzy looking. T5 color code? This really makes me want to paint mine back to the original color. (My color code is T5)

High Idle issue - mild 360

Not really, it could be other issues as well. Ignition issues. Specifically the distributor. Fuel flow problem. Carb tune. Not sure how savvy you are with carbs, especially Holley's, it is also likely that the carb's tune is out of whack. I'm more familiar with Eldelbrocks and Street Demons...

High Idle issue - mild 360

31 degrees initial timing? If so that is a bit high for a mild build. I have a moderate build 360 and my initial timing is about 15 degrees. Also closing the hood and having your rpm increase is indicative of you running lean since you're restricting the airflow to the carb once you close the...

    Highest flowing sbm heads?

Can you grow up and leave politics out of this thread? Thank you. If you think everyone in California is a left wing lunatic then you need to get out of Kansas more.

    Mechanical fuel pump

Years ago I had a Carter M6902 that I had in a box, my from my old 83' Ram W150. I was going to rebuild it when I got the chance. Until she threw the box away during our move. I was a bit pissed. It was made in the USA at the time I then bought the M6270, I then just put on a regulator and set...

    Highest flowing sbm heads?

Funny I just subscribed to a post of a guy on this site who's planning on putting a Hellcat motor into his 72' Demon. 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat weighs in at 4456 lbs. My 74' Duster weighed in at about 3,200, I imagine that Demon is roughly the same weight. That being said I'm...

    Thermoquad question

Hence the edit to my original post: :D - "One of my fondest childhood memories is my dad gunning the old Ramcharger whenever he needed to pass cars. That roar that thermoquad emitted was unique, no other carb did that. Not even the new Street Demons, I mean they do slightly, they're just...

    Thermoquad question

Yeah... They are good. A good chunk of their design was utilized in the newer Street Demon carbs. That says a lot. One of my fondest childhood memories is my dad gunning the old Ramcharger whenever he needed to pass cars. That roar that thermoquad emitted was unique, no other carb did that. Not...

    89 360 engine

I agree, In my experience with these platforms: I've had 1984 ramcharger, 1989 ramcharger, 1983 Power Ram W150, and a 1988 Power Ram W150. The 1988 Power Ram did not have a roller LA 360. (it was manufactured in 08/1987 so It's possible it was using leftover 87' stock) The 1989 Ramcharger did...

1992 5.9 LA Roller Cam Motor Build?

A bit of an old thread but I'll add my build: This was a motor out of a 1990 Dodge Ramcharger that I save from the Recyclers for $500, Sold the rest of the Ramcharger for parts to a young 17 yr old Girl who had an 87 Ramcharger for $400. So basically I started with a $100, 1990 360 LA roller...

    Lunati Retrofit Hydraulic Roller

...were doing when they designed and built these. I've had little to no problems with these stock roller lifters and they're actually pretty quiet. *I lucked out with mine*, so I didn't need the hydraulic roller retrofit kit. And from what you folks are describing, not a good investment. *7...

    Lunati Retrofit Hydraulic Roller

Again LA blocks had factory roller lifters from the late 80's to 91/92. No retrofit kit needed. All I needed was the hyd. roller cam itself. The block already had roller lifters from the factory. Here is what I used: Voodoo Retro-Fit Hydraulic Roller Cam - Chrysler 273-360 270/279 (No lifter...

    Lunati Retrofit Hydraulic Roller

I do agree with you, however. Mine's one of the oddball "transition" years. Mine is actually classified as an LA block. (mine is from 1991 Ramcharger) 360's from about 1989 to 1992 were classified as LA blocks but had roller lifters from factory and the "308" heads. The 318's started having...

    Lunati Retrofit Hydraulic Roller

I know this an older thread but I'll input my 3 year of experience with this exact cam, I didn't need a retrofit kit as my LA 360 was already a roller from factory. This is a very good cam, I've had little to no issues with it. Awesome mid-range. Great street cam, although a bit on the mild...

    LA top end rebuild question

Well since the moderator cleaned up this thread (for the most Part), good. It seems to me the ones with the most racing and engine building experience have pretty much said what I said. LA top end rebuild question

I dunno... I have a Cloyes Double roller in mine... Over, 40,000 miles later, daily driven and many 1000+ mile trips after my rebuild. I still maintain timing and have no issues... Now, with the money I saved I just went ahead and bought a set of ported big valve 340 J-heads for $200 from a...

Smallblock efficiency or How to have your cake and eat it too

Well he did state it in the first post: My experience has shown me yes the cookie cutter EFI is great if they don't know how to tune a carb or if you have deep pockets and love the self adjusting feature for when you're changing altitudes and such. Don't get me wrong I think they are nice...

...and 33 inch tires. 360/A727 4X4, on hwy at 65mph running about 3200 RPM I got 11 mpg. I think the barn-like aerodynamics and being about 4800lb has alot to do with it. (I still miss that truck ~RIP) *Edit: BTW I'm at 4500 ft elevation, I definitely have to run 91 octane premium at the minimum

Now here is what you might look into in the future. I sure am! CHRYSLER 5.9L/360 Engine Kits & Rotating Assemblies - 4.000 in. Engine Stroke (in) But I gotta be responsible, save up and pay off bills first.

No, I had to use the positive seals. Here: COMP Cams Valve Seals 521-16 Or: COMP Cams Valve Seals 514-16 I can't remember which. One is designed for triple springs (521)

Finally the decision has been made.

Dartfreak, This may or may not help you, I used Comp 995-16 springs on my "308" heads for my Lunati Voodoo cam. COMP Cams Valve Springs 995-16 Granted this is a rollercammed 360 from 1990, so I'm using part #20200711 and have been for almost 4 years. (I should've went with 20200712 now that I...

B&M does sell a balanced flex plate so you don't have to worry about having a weight welded on the TQ converter. *Edit* The balancer's are keyed, they can only be installed on the crankshaft one way. *Note* Do not lose the key! Easy to do and PITA to find if you...

    Gas Mileage???

I tuned the carb with an AFR gauge. My jets and rods have already been set. The only thing I haven't looked at yet is the distributor. I'll do what rmchgr suggested its running so good other than the WOT ping I would hate to retard the timing less than what it is now.
