    1973 360

A average 70' 340 Duster ran about 97mph in the qtr. at 3300 lbs with driver. A well tuned stock 74' 360 Duster ran about 95mph at 3550 lbs with the same driver. That equates to around 235 net horsepower for both. Considering the lower comp. and 1.88 intakes for the 360, i'd say both engines...

    360 vs 383

I grew up ''car wise'' in the late 60'/70's and there were quite few 68/9 Road Runners around at the time. While they were a great performance value then, i think they also contributed to the lack of respect for the 383. Most dealers ordered the basic models that were column shift auto's with...

    360 vs 383

Senario 3... i'm fine with a 11sec bracket car, so the 360 in a A body or 383 in a B is where i'd go here. As far as senario 4, all bets are off. Really depends on the class or et needed to compete. All that said, i think a moderate compression, mildly cammed, low rpm, 470/500'' B engine would...

    360 vs 383

Stay away half a day and 4 pgs. pop up...lol To jump in for senario 1.....A well tuned 74' 360 Duster will run door to door with a 60's 383 Cuda ---3.23/3.21 gears. 14.40ish. Not bad for a heavier Duster, so in this case, i'm a 360 fan. Now to senario 2, I'd probably still stick with the...

I used parts from here years ago on a Chevy project and worked well with only minor tweaking. Hopefully quality control is still up to snuff. Worth a look if you want to go that route. 1967-1968-1969 Plymouth Barracuda Fiberglass Front Fenders right and left pair (Bolt-On Heavy Duty) - US Body

    Blown 440 spark plug gap

Been a long time, but if i recall, a hot ignition, non projected plugs and a .028ish gap was preferred back in my day with that kind of boost. Just another opinion...

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

I agree, 15-20ish. Main issue is, where it really helps, the stock 318 cam is too rpm limited.

    340 dual point??

Not sure of the value by todays standards, but in the 70's they were bad ***. My buds cammed 70' 340 was breaking up in the mid 5k range with his newly purchased DC electronic setup, so i took it to a friend that was a PS racer at the time...Malcolm Durham...and he yanked the electronic out and...

    crank no start

Sometimes a spark check will look positive, but the juice is weak enough that fuel and compression will drowned it out. If your dizzy uses a box, make sure it has a good/clean ground.

    Another 318 set up

Back to post 1... Yes Dan, your thoughts would make a fine daily driver that has plenty of ''pep'' to around 5200ish rpm's even with the 500 carb. Not sure what you'll eventually do or want when you get your car, but not everyone needs a street ''hot rod'' as a lot here may think.

    intake swap performer loss?

I'll get hammered for this, but is a cowl induction scoop legal for the class you will be running. I'd really like the Stealth if possible.

Crossover Tube and Valve Spring Pressure Questions

This. You have plenty of spring imo. My buds 340 crossed the finish line a hair over 7k with a similar setup. 273 rockers and ran a Torker to boot. :) As far as the oil mods, as long as have 6qt+ oil capacity, i don't think it's needed.

Low speed torque and driveability ?

Aren't all these posted torque charts run at WOT? To me, drivability means nice/smooth bottom end acceleration with the least amount of throttle opening. I'm still sticking with my ''big inch/long arm theory.....:)

Low speed torque and driveability ?

Imo, big cube long stroke engines with mild cams deliver the best compromise. Anyone that's driven the older stock GM 455's knows what i'm talking about. Since we're talkin A bodies, i'd build a 9 to 1 low deck BB with a 4'' plus crank, iron heads, 220ish cam and the regulation bolt ons with a...

Did They Make Square Bore AVS Carbs Made That Only Had The Small Bolt Pattern On The Base Plate?

I believe all the AFB/AVS carbs had similar base plates. You may need to look at the real early WCFB's if that's important to you.
