Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

You really going to rely on 'Adv duration' numbers? The Chrys cam & the Pontiac cam have 225 & 224 @ 050. Their adv numbers are 284 & 301....... Or two Crane cams, both 273 @ 050, but 308 & 330 Adv duration.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Ant, Get DVs SB Chevy book, SA books #57. Money well spent. It has a couple of pages of cams, hyd & solids, FTs & rollers, from mild to wild, for various engine sizes. It gives LSA & duration for these cams & you will be able to make an INFORMED decision on a cam for your engine. I believe...

Slow Crank, No Start When Warm

Ign type does not cause slow cranking. You need a high HP starter. The MSD Dyna Force is over 3 hp. Some companies make a range of starters, with some less than 2 hp.

    adjusting valve lash 422 SB

3402, You are close to the 290 @ 050 limit, so use the 8 position method. Some people are making too much of this, almost anal. You have roller lifters.......& presumably roller rockers. A roller lifter has two areas that can vary in dimension [ that a FT lifter does not ]. How accurate the...

Advancing stock cam in a 360?

When advancing or retarding a cam, you are doing so in crank degrees, NOT cam degrees. So in the example in post #22, one tooth would be 15.8*. that is a lot. Yes confusing. Regarding cam timing [ in degrees ], the only number that is in cam degrees is the LSA. Every thing else, ICL, ECL &...

    adjusting valve lash 422 SB

The 4 position method is accurate up to 290 @ 050 duration; more than that, the 8 position should be used. Once the initial adjustment/running in is complete, the random method is the most accurate.

From Crane cams, years ago. To feel a difference, adv or ret the cam a MINIMUM of 4*.

    And go....

I didn't read 36 posts. Mike Jones, aka Cam King & renowned cam grinder said a while back that the FT lifters are made off shore, only one company making them in the US. This week on Speed talk he said he has Chebby lifters.....for $320. So if you are getting lifters for much less.....they are...

So, no ign box, just a bal res? That would be correct for 1967....which is: ign coil, points & condenser. I would start by replacing the points & cond.

    Overheating on run stand

Agree with RRR. More timing on an unloaded engine. Engine is NOT driving the car, just itself. Other thoughts: - there will always be some air trapped in the cooling system of new engines. You have to run the engine, let the engine cool, to push the air out. This may take 2-3 cycles. The engine...

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

No wonder Holleys run rich. Carter carbs DO run a restriction to the T slot. Carter called it the 'Economizer' [ & patented it ] for obvious reasons. In many TQs I have checked, it varies from 0.046" to about 0.052". Another name for this restriction is the Idle Down Channel. In the Ruggles QJ...

A QUICK QUESTION ABOUT MANIFOLD VACUUM

Some ignorance about idle timing on this thread. 25* with a mild cam. The engine in question has well over 200* @ 050 duration on the intake. It has 9.3:1 CR. Consider this engine: 10.75:1 CR. 197* @ 050 intake duration. Note that, all else being equal, a higher CR reduces the amount of idle...

Solid rollers with off set push rod hole issue.

Maybe the lifter bore bushes are not perpendicular to the cam. Side loading, post #6.
  23. B

Solid rollers with off set push rod hole issue.

First thing I would check: does the offset on the lifter line up with the side of the lobe that is damaged. If so, that could point to edge loading. That can be made worse by the lifter being loose[r] in the bore ; also the roller having too much play in the brgs [ or bush ]. All of these...

What cam to use in a 318

Turk, When you LEARN how an air bleed works, & how a HP number is produced, then you might be able to preach to others, most of whom are more knowledgeable than you...which wouldn't be that hard gauging from the BS you spew on this website. And how many patents do you have???????

I Need Engine Experts! 340 Roller Lifter and Pushrod Issue

If you run solid lifters, you can NEVER get two problems that hyd lifters can get: - they won't pump up & lose power - they won't collapse internally causing noise & power loss.

I Need Engine Experts! 340 Roller Lifter and Pushrod Issue

If you want to reduce the prod angle & the amount of lift that is lost, you could use sol lifters. They should be shorter because they do not have the internal hyd mechanism. Just lash them tight, 0.006-8" at operating temp.

Is 20W-50 too heavy for my 340?

I live in a hot climate & use 10w/60 oil. On a cold winters day, it flows like a '10' oil to get to the engine components quickly. On a hot 40*+ C day, when I come off the freeway with a heat soaked engine, I have 30 psi at idle.......not 10.....

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

To answer the original question, changing only the carb from a 2 to 4bbl [ & a 4bbl intake ], I agree with the others about 15-20 hp. Very little if any benefit at the lower end. However, using a high signal carb that has annular pri boosters like the Edel 500 AVS2 would would probably add some...

What cam to use in a 318

Re-grinding a stock cam to get more lift will leave the lobe physically much smaller..... You may need longer prods. Not the best solution.
