Should my 1974 Duster have a hood - to - radiator support gasket?

I have really not observed any discernable difference with or without in the cooling temperature. I have not run one for the last 20 years.

    Intermediate Shaft Wear

If it was me = the money I spend building my engines -- I would pull it apart OR at least pull the pan and inspect to rod bearings and cut apart the filter for inspection!

    Intermediate Shaft Wear

The Bronze gears are a race only piece designed to sacrificially wear first. On our race cars we replace them every 50 to 75. passes or once a year whichever comes first. We do NOT run them on a street car period. A melonized gear is what is on our street cars.

    Lifter failure

You probably have a fair amount of metal circulating throughout the oiling system.

    Steve Magnante’s Old Valiant

My son owns and runs a Red 68 Valiant 100 that was Hot Rod Cover Car way back then and voted one of the most influential Hot Rods of first 50 years of Hot Rod Magazine and invited to be displayed at Peterson Automotive Museum. Perhaps that is the Red Valiant you were thinking about. It is still...

    Steve Magnante’s Old Valiant

No Aluminum Quarters. Correct on lightweight Hoods/Deck lids/Bumber brackets.. I believe Dart and Duster only 1976 as I remember. I have a nice 76 Duster Lite hood in the back of the shop. It has been For Sale on this site but never any interest.

    NHRA BO29 information from 1968

They had a red sticker in front of driver door that stated they were NOT Street Legal or conform to safety standards. At least the three I owned did. Including one Brand New in 1968.

    Steve Magnante’s Old Valiant

Yes. It actually was the original paint and the color was Turbine Bronze was what the color was called as my elderly mind recalls.

    Steve Magnante’s Old Valiant

I have owned Steve's 70 Valiant Duster after buying it from Steve for the last 20 years if that is the car you are looking for. It was Project Feather Duster with many articles on the build in Hot Rod and Car Craft. It is totally street legal and run 10.30 @ 128 and weigh 2365. It will be...

leaf spring center bolt height Q

The Dana S60 housing is way stronger the 8 3/4 Housing and I think that the bolts would stretch/break long before I significantly deflected the tubes on that Monster! Just my .02 for what it is worth.

    904 band adjustment question

I think as I seen to recall the service manual in the 1960's stated 72-inch pounds and back two turns. They are at the shop and i am at home today or I would look it up to be certain I am correct. The bands we use now are higher friction components and better quality. We often use higher ratio...

    904 band adjustment question

I snug them up finger tight and then back 1 1/2 turn. I usually cannot be a torque wrench in there do to the headers we run but of course that would be better. I am not familiar with method you have stated. But then again - I am old.

leaf spring center bolt height Q

In my elderly opinion I think the pins mainly located the rear end and the major amount of the retention is through the clamping force of the u bolts. They supply a bit of retention but not the bulk of it.

I replace the pins with Allen head bolts.

    Strange S60 Rear End Help

As long as you are even 1/2 way close on the perches you can use Degree wedges (Shims) to adjust the rear end when assembled. I would have them welded on 3 Degree down and adjust them from there when I assembled the car with your Superstock springs. I use wet towels and keep the housing cool...

Identify coating on my 273 rocker arms

I would not guess DLC as I am looking at it? Dark "Cacao" Chocolate is a possibility.

Agreed. However, I do not believe they make anything but roller Lifters and not any flat tappets whatsoever.

    273 Rocker on 340

I ran them on race cars 50 years ago with up to 550/570 Lift. They clear 1.47 spring with no grinding. Do not get crazy on the grinder as they tend to crack pretty easy around oil hole. Another issue is that the interference adjuster tended to loosen every 10/20 runs. I spot faced the rockers...

Low oil pressure at stop light.

Not a lot you can do on a small block. Try a heavier oil and perhaps put a aftermarket oil pressure gauge on your car so you can see how bad it actually is. You do not need a lot of oil pressure at idle but you need some!
