What rear gear are you 273 guys running?

3.23 was factory standard for most applications. If you have a Commando, the power goes to 5200rpm, so you might benefit from a higher numeric ratio. The mileage will suck either way.

68 Barracuda mystery - Can someone provide some information?

Whoa, the sail panel louvers are certainly "unique". That took some work. It looks like this might be a total one-off custom job. Surprised it doesn't have one of those rainbow 70s paint jobs.

    273 parts interchange

Yeah, all I was saying was, if he was starting with the 2bbl 273, there is nothing about it that is special. It has low compression, small bores, small valves... he could start with any other LA block and be ahead. But the graph shows what a difference compression and a cam makes...

    273 parts interchange

There is an enormous effective difference between a standard 2bbl 273 and the 4bbl Commando/Charger version. When people think of 273s as high-winders they are thinking about the 4bbl. Check out the different power curves in the right lower corner of this page — 2bbl upper right, 4bbl lower...

68 Barracuda mystery - Can someone provide some information?

It's the rectangular frames that are weird... I could see a badge added to the grill mesh (some later Mopars do that), but those frames look clunky. But they are very neatly integrated. Does this car have the PLYMOUTH lettering on the driver side just above the grill? Your photo crops it out. If...

    1968 barracuda VIN question

No, they are not the same. The "sequential build number" is shown on the broadcast sheet, and stamped into the radiator support, but it is not the same as the VIN sequential digits.

[WANTED] Left hand thread front wheel studs

What is the overall length? I have some lefties, I can't remember if they are fronts or rears. You just need 5?

    67 Barracuda Front Rim/Tire Help

Have you test fitted the Cragars to make sure they seat all the way on the hub and clear the calipers? I had a set of vintage 14" TorqThrusts and they only worked with disc brakes if you used a spacer. But if they fit on the hub OK, I would think you should be able to use the same size tire...

    273 Commando Piston Number Question?

Those are the format for factory part numbers. And those are factory pistons — aftermarket replacements have a shallow central hole from the lathe. Or at least my TRW hypereutetic ones do. I've seen it on others, though. But I don't know about the most common ones, from Egge.

    Spring Fling 2025

I hung around for the awards for once, and actually snagged one. My 3rd 3rd place… Alan edged me out for 2nd with the ride I sold to him… cruel irony. Of course it was the work he put into it that took him over the top.

    Help me improve my brakes

The manual disk brakes do take a lot of pedal pressure, especially if you are used to a modern car. You could try a master cylinder with a smaller bore — this reduces the pedal effort by increasing the stroke required.

Distributor Vacuum pod to intake manifold interference issue

Just move the wires around the distributor cap. That's way simpler than messing with the drive gear. And, it is probably the problem in the first place. Why mess up the basic timing of the engine — the drive gear alignment is part of the engine setup — just address the actual problem.

    Bucket seat swap question.

My 67 Barracuda fastback bench car had dimples that I drilled out to fit buckets way back when. After I wore out the junkyard buckets, I went back to a bench seat for uniqueness. One warning about drilling the holes – one of them is very close to the rear brake line. Close enough that the fender...
