    Stroke a 318

honestly, if you're going to build a stroked 318, I'd start with an '85-91 block. they have factory roller cams, 302 heads. the roller cam is the biggie. you can get it reground, or get a roller cam and reuse the stock roller lifters at a much lower cost than the retrofit roller lifters...

How far in the hole 318 pistons

How about searching out an '89 - '91 roller 318, or the earlier '86 - '88 roller 318? The generation of 318 Roller Cam engines all came with the flat top pistons .040 ths down in the hole at 9.2:1 c.r. stock without even having to touch them. With the factory 302 Closed Chamber heads with the...

Hello All, I am pretty sure you can do this but I wanted to ask to make sure. I have a 318 non magnum hydraulic roller block. Can I install a regular hydraulic cam and lifters? I have everything for the flat tappet. Cam, lifters, timing chain and pushrods to match. Using an electric fuel...

Again- 1967-1969 318- 9.2:1 compression advertised. 1984-1991 318 roller- 9.2:1 compression (and verified by an FABO member to be 9.18:1).

    86 Black Roller 318, swap/interchange into 72 318

Partly because roller cam retrofit to a non roller cam block is more expensive. Solid roller will be most expensive. It all depends what you have planned for the car. If I was using a 318, I would use a hydraulic roller cam. If you use your 86 block, just buy a cam for that and stock replacement...

Mines a '85.. had the roller bosses but a flat tappet, i put in a howards roller using OEM lifters.. with 60cc heads i calculated 9.7-9.8:1 (old age can't recall) i think the pistons were .055 in the hole

Cams , pushrods , roller, hydraulic

Hey guys , have an issue . I have a late model roller 360 la non-magnum block I’m building for my daughters 71 duster. When we looked at cams roller cams were big $$. So I went with comp cams hydraulic . I pulled the pushrods and rocker shafts off my the old 318. When I tried to set it up, the...

I have had great luck with the Edelbrock 1406 600 cfm carbs on the roller 318 engines. Pefect calibration with no goofing around jetting, good throttle response, good idle, and handy electric choke too. They run out nice on many other engines on the engine test run stand too, like a stock...

    318 gurus/historians

Someone tell me what I have. I bought a '77 D100, neat little truck, I've had many. It had sat for 18 years in a metal shed. 318 auto with air, P/S, P/B and the adventurer package. I slowly brought it back to life, and it ran great. Having sat for so long, it started leaking oil, trans fluid and...

IM surprised by Richard Holdeners 360 Magnum camshaft swap.......

No 318 ever came with a 340 cam and very few 360 did, most 4bbl 360 had 2bbl cams.

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

A roller 318 can go several hundred thousand miles. If the timing chain has been replaced, which is probably a good bet considering everything that's been swapped over, you're golden.

New to mow par x ford guy

That ‘87 318 is a good motor, especially if it’s a roller. Put a good intake, carb, headers, mild cam and dual timing chain with a metal gear on it and it will move that Dart around just fine. If you decide on the 360 just remember it’s externally balanced and the 318 is internally balanced

Your '89 318 roller short block will be 9.2:1 cr with the factory flat top pistons sitting .040 down in the hole. ☆☆☆☆☆

The question is ^^^ how deep in the hole are your new .040 over bore pistons? As it is difficult to find the same Compression Height measurement with replacement pistons as what came stock in the '89 318 roller engine. ☆☆☆☆☆

    318 .40 Over..?

I'm not much of a gear head, horsepower guy.. I just don't have the knowledge.. I bought a 71 318 a couple years ago. I have not heard it run, and it's been on a stand since purchase. I was "told" it ran good / strong.. No details given on the rebuild, but it does have a double roller chain and...

IM surprised by Richard Holdeners 360 Magnum camshaft swap.......

Here are the numbers I got from having a 2000 Ram 5.9 cam run through the Cam Doctor at Bullet Cams: Duration @ 0.050: I/E 189*/194* Lobe separation angle: 111* Lift @ cam: I/E 0.273"/0.278" Valve lift w/ 1.6 rockers: I/E 0.437”/0.445”

IM surprised by Richard Holdeners 360 Magnum camshaft swap.......

I was under the impression the 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum roller cams were a bit hotter than the LA roller cam, which did, in fact look pretty near identical to the FT pre- LA roller cam. I've asked in a few places if the LA roller version at least had faster ramps to take advantage of the rollers, but...

Do any of the pre magnum roller blocks have the magnum style motor mount provisions cast into the block?

My ‘91 Dakota with a 318 used the Magnum motor mounts. It is a roller block, but not a Magnum motor. No idea if any other motors had the cast in bosses.

[SOLD] $9,995 1970 Dart Swinger v8 car in Oregon

I went to your marketplace ad and you said that it's a roller 360 and that it has the same bore size as the 318, this is in correct as the 318 has a bore size of 3.910" and the 360 has a bore size of 4.000". The 360 also has a longer stroke as you said.
