    Thanks for the heads up on the Cat stuff. I bought a new Powerbond balancer. I found out that there are two different lengths of balancer bolts which I think was my problem. 1.44” and 2.23” I’ll find out in the next couple of days.

    So after closer inspection the balancer is butted up against the oil slinger and I still have this much room at the front (see pictures). Either I have the wrong balancer or something else is wrong. Are the 340 and 360 balancers different (besides the internal/ external balance)

    Not 100% sure what the exact interference point. Since the end of the balancer went through the front cover opening into the seal I’m guessing it was hitting the edge of the seal (?).     Even before I had .002 taken out of the balancer it would still slide on pretty far. Seems like a tapered fit.

    It isn’t hitting the bolt sticking out, it’s pretty far away. I’m thinking I’ll pull the oil pan, water pump and front cover and getting to the bottom of this. The front cover is a standard late 70s Chrysler piece.

    Here’s some pics. The balancer slides on by hand. In the last pic you can see the ridge that was factory machined into the balancer and how far past the ridge it slides over the crank snout. Should the timing cover be loose when installing the balancer?
